YAY!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
If you want to get really technical about it, I’ve had health insurance since September 1 but I just got my proof in the mail today. I can finally go to the doctor without having to pay for everything up front!
Of course, now that I have proof that I’m insured, I wont get sick. During the year that I didn’t have insurance, I ended up at Urgent Care 3 times (twice for a really bad URI/chest cold which had me dehydrated, struggling to breathe, and with a headache so bad that thinking hurt and which left me with balance issues for 5 months, and once for a cortisone shot in my elbow). I also really wanted to go in when I had poison ivy but I restrained myself and dealt with the suffering for 6 weeks.
I almost want to get sick now just so I can hand over that shiny blue card and my $20 copay, and not endure a lecture about how MA residents are required to be insured (yeah? and if I don’t file tax forms next year, how are they gonna know?)
My boyfriend said he would get me dental insurance for Christmas so as of January 1, I wont have to worry about dental emergencies either! Sadly, my teeth will not miraculously get better just because I have insurance.
Congrats, but seriously look at the numbers for dental insurance. It’s usually not a good deal, as the premiums are only slightly less than your max benefits per year.

Antinor01** is an insurance person who sells dental insurance among other things; he pointed it out in a recent thread.
This plan is for college students. It’s $202 to get me from January 1 through the end of the school year in August. I pretty much only need fillings and cleanings so I’m not too concerned about plan limits. I don’t need any kind of reconstruction or orthodontia. Unless there’s something nasty brewing in there that I’m not aware of yet, I should be ok.
My biggest 2 issues will be finding a doctor on the plan who is willing to admit that not everyone has nerves in the same spots, and getting over my own experience-based fear of excruciating pain.
Oh in that case it sounds good! Congrats and enjoy
Congrats on your new found healthiness.
It’s got to be such a relief to not have that hanging over you.
It is, definitely. This was only the second time in my life without insurance and the last time was only a couple months. The whole year was stressful, worrying that I’d get sick. The last 2 months was a lot easier but still stressful, worrying that I’d get sick and have to wait to be reimbursed.
I felt so much relief when I saw the Blue Cross envelope in the mail.
