I have jury duty tomorrow...

Was anyone else reminded of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comic when Fat Freddy got called up for jury duty?

Or a “Jury Nullification? Ask me how!” shirt!

Ivylad had a hearing before a judge recently (SSA thing) and wore a suit. The judge THANKED him for dressing appropriately and we have a funny feeling that may have weighed in his favor (beyond the reading of the law, of course.)

I wouldn’t be at all surprised. If I were a judge, I’d take note of how the person was dressed. Just sitting in the hall outside several courtrooms for hours, I was appalled and boggled at the stuff people wore into the courtroom. I assumed they were defendants, plaintiffs, or witnesses. T-shirts, sure, but long, baggy shorts, the rattiest possible jeans, flip-flops. I guess it’s the same stuff they wear to class and to job interviews.

Well, I realize not everyone can afford a nice suit. But Goodwill and other thrift stores can be lifesavers in that regard…I know we’ve personally donated suits that don’t fit him.

Do people just not understand or don’t care?

Lawyers and defendants wear suits. Witnesses maybe. Jurors, why bother?
I was up for the jury on a capital murder case where the rapist/murderer (he got convicted) was all snazzed up in a suit. He was still scum.

You know, if I’m going to sit on a jury to decide someone’s life or a big chunk of it, I’m going to at least wear clean clothes that cover all my parts, out of respect for the court and the situation. So ivylass I think it’s “don’t care”.
