Horrible things with black hairs and they’re eating the leaves of my oleanders. Fitting enough, they’re called oleander caterpillars
I plan on calling the gardening show on my local talk radio show tomorrow to find out how to deal with these nasty things. (Warning, picture of creepy caterpillars.) Has anyone else dealt with these horrid bugs? I would think they are hard to kill because they can eat oleander leaves.
The good thing is, apparently, although they eat the leaves they don’t kill the plant. Also, they’re not eating on the white oleander, only the pink and red ones. These plants are two years old and I didn’t have them last year.
Go away, caterpillars. Go far far away. I hate creepy crawlies!
Ewww! Those are almost as bad as the tomato hornworm! They’re even worse when they’re covered in egg sacs or whatever they are. ICK!
I used to pick them off with salad tongs and drown them in a pitcher of water. Hehehehehehehe Those bastard would go through a while tomato plant days!!
He started off by saying, “That’s why I don’t grow oleanders anymore. They’re pretty, but they’re highly toxic and require a lot of work.” He gave me a couple of insecticides to use, but I have to reapply every 10 days. Shoot. I guess I’ll dig them up and try something else.
This worked for tomato worms, it is a bit gross but what the hell.
Pick off as many worms as you can, dropping them in a container that you can crush them up in. Add hot water to the “mash” and then strain it into a small garden sprayer. 1 Qt/liter size works well. Spray over the plants. It seems that the new worms think that the plants have allready been taken over and then they leave them alone.
Dad tought me this and as I said, worked on toamto pests.
