I have Pogues tickets

I just bought two tickets to see The Pogues on October tenth at The Showbox SoDo in Seattle. It’s been way too long. The last time I saw them it was at the Wiltern in L.A., and Shane wasn’t there. (Joe Strummer took his place.)

So I have one ticket too many. But who knows? I might meet a girl who’s into The Pogues!

Or, on a whim, you might decide it’d be a real hoot to fly a fellow doper 3,000 miles and bring him to the show!

Hey, worth a shot…

Sorry, Hal, but seeing as how I am a fellow Doper who is half Irish and living in Boston to boot (where talking shit about Shane is a capital offense in some neighborhoods), I believe that Johnny L.A. is under an actual legal obligation to take me.

Or not . . . Meh, oh well. Is Shane even the same person now that he has teeth?

And I once again have to give a shout-out to the SDMB. Before reading about him on this message board, I had never even heard of Shaney Mac. Shortly after reading that thread, I happened to catch the last half of If I Should Fall from Grace with God on Sundance, and I was hooked for life.

If you promise him a ‘reach around’, I bet he’ll take you.

Hey, now! :dubious:

You bastard. You have an extra ticket to see the Pogues and you want to waste it on maybe picking up some girl!

You aren’t in trouble if I can still get tickets to the LA show, but if not…so much trouble mister.

I got tickets! Ok, so you aren’t in trouble Johnny.

I might be up in Seattle two weeks later… want to fly me twice?

Oh, I was just about to start a Pogues-related thread, but my question seems pretty relevant here:

How are they in concert these days? I’m sure some of you have seen them recently. It would make me sad to see a bunch of old people up there just going through the motions. And does Shane show up in decent shape? It costs fifty bucks, which would be the most I’ve ever paid to see a single band. I would totally flip out seeing a great Pogues show, and it would be well worth the fifty bucks, even though I’m broke. But if they suck, I would be angry and sad. So, who’s seen 'em recently? How are they holding up two decades after their peak?

As I said, I haven’t seen them since The Wiltern. I have The Snake (Shane MacGowan and the Popes), and IMO it lacks compared to The Pogues. Shane just seemed tired.

I’m hoping he makes it 'til October!

I had the pleasure of seeing the Pogues at the Carling Academy in Glasgow in December 2008. It was the only time I’ve seen them live so am unable to compare this performance to their older gigs. There was a good mix of ages in the crowd, probably a majority of older folk but lots of people in their late teens and early twenties too. The crowd was fantastic, the beer flowed (and flew); people were really into it whatever their age.

Shane was a great performer, though must confess I barely understood a word he said between songs! He was in a good shape, clearly not sober but not drunk enough that it hindered his performance. If they’re even close to the form they were in when I saw them then you won’t be disappointed. I’d say they are holding up admirably!
