I found that dish of cat food, abandoned and partially covered by leaves. Google Lens easily provided a reasonable species name–I’ve been seeing plenty of these Black Soldier Flies around this year, but assumed they were some type of wasp. Lots of links to how people are farming these now, and there is even work on kits for those who believe that they can do it better and cheaper at home.
So, forget the Impossible Burger–who wants to step into this brave new world?
