But I also have sticky fingers in the bad sense of the word.
For the last 7 or 8 months my wrists, arms, and fingers have really started to get achy and painful. My hands started to feel weaker and they would tingle and get numb more and more often. I figured that if I could still type on the SDMB and pick my nose and my ass things were okay. That is until my middle fingers wouldn’t straighten up when I made a fist. I would (and still do) have to pry them up with the other hand. THIS freaked me out so I finally went to the doctor a month ago.
Diagnosis - Bilateral carpal tunnel, tendonitis, trigger fingers, and something called DeQuenvien’s SomeBigLongWordThatIForgotTheName caused from excessive masturbation.
I have been going to physical therapy twice week for a month, next week is my last week and then I see my doctor again. She said that depending on the results of therapy, I may or may not have to have :::gulp::: surgery. She also mentioned something about cortisone shots.
I have heard a lot of good things about surgery but everyone who has had experiences with shots tell me how painful they are.
I confess, I am a total baby when it comes to pain. Are these shots really as painful as I hear? I am thinking of gritting my teeth and saying “They feel fine, really they do, so can I go home now?”
The trigger fingers are pretty cool though and it is kinda fun to perform tricks for the kiddies.
sorry that you are in pain. may i suggest yoga? or even Falun Dafa if you’re willing to try.
yoga has helped friends of mine with the same thing.
real yoga, not the stuff they throw at you in the gym, i mean like Iyengar or Bikram yoga. It’s better then therapy in my opinion, and after a few classes, you will totally notice a difference.
look up yoga on the net for places by you, there are places everywhere, and it’s not expensive for a class, here in Manhattan it’s about $12 - $18 depending on where you go, i’m sure its way cheaper outside.
helped me get rid of my back pain. i swear ever since i got out of the army, my entire body has decided to break down in every way. i started taking yoga and practicing Falun Dafa, and in no time, my allergies were gone, i go rock climbing every weekend, my body feels great. good luck. surgery would really suck, though i doubt it would be painful, it just sucks.
I have a friend who has just had the surgery. She has already had one hand done. This time she seems to be in more pain than before. Actually, she said it hasn’t done much good. She still has the numbness and limited use of her hands.
I’d try what I could before I elected the surgery. It seems the surgery doesn’t help that much.
Yeah, that’s it DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis (dang, I’m impressed.)
Whose to say I don’t use handcuffs when I masturbate?
I asked my aerobic instructor about yoga and she gave me a few places to check out. I think I’ll go for it. Thanks mucho!
I will do most anything to avoid surgery, but I am wondering if that “anything” should include cortisone shots. I have been hearing that they really hurt like a sonofabitch.
Diane, I’ve had cortisone shots a number of times for pain and altho its painful at the time, the effects are incredible.
I’ve heard good and bad things about the surgery. One of the girls I work with had it and it worked out really well for her. Its apparently quite a simple procedure.
Diane, I had bicep tendinitis last year. The orthopedic specialist I went to prescribed mega-doses of Motrin (800 mg) to be taken 3/day for 2 weeks. It was either this or I could get a cortisone shot in my tendon. You may want to ask your doctor if Motrin would help.
Try acupuncture. I hear it works on those kind of things. I want it for my lower back. And I know what Unca Cece said, but even a placebo can be better than nothing!
Today I was a total dumbass and now I am paying for it.
My arms and hands were feeling great today thanks to therapy yesterday. The ultra-sounds makes them feel almost perfect for a day or two.
I didn’t take my arm brace with me to work because I didn’t think I needed it. I forgot that Fridays are my Power Flex class during my lunch hour and as hard as I try, I can’t make myself miss it. It’s like a sickness, really.
For those who don’t know what power flex is, it is sort of a weight-lifing aerobic workout using barbells. It’s a lot of fun but as you can guess, you use a lot of gripping motion.
About half way through my wrists started to feel puffy and sore but I didn’t stop. Tonight they are really starting to feel like shit. I can’t call my doctor because she will yell at me if I tell her what I did today.
So, I am thinking either hot or cold packs, but not sure which to use. Any suggestions on how to prevent my hands from keeping me awake all night and sore tomorrow? (I could really say some perverse things about now, but I won’t.)
never feel like an ass so bad you’re embarrassed to call your doc. Doc always thinks the patients an ass
better safe then sorry. you know better. i’m telling you, yoga. never fails. if you’re going to do any type of workout with your wrists and hands, do more stretching rather than lifting, you need to heal the muscles and tendons, not tear them apart. stretch lightly, and my track coach in HS always said ice is nice, hot is not.
but i’m not a doc.
so call the doc if you wanna be safe.
Thanks. I think I’ll try the ice first. If I absolutely have to call her (which will only happen if they feel like they are being ripped out with a pick-ax) then I will probably tell her that a “good friend” of mine who has the “same condition” did this really stupid thing today.
