I Have The Oddest Job Interview Monday

Dude!

You’re gonna be a Winston Wolfe!

THE FINAL CHAPTER

Now to the conclusion of the story.

Short and sweet - I did not get the mystery job.
Typical to this story - they claim I will be offered the job first or second quarter of next year.

To make the story even odder, on Wednesday, while awaiting word of the mystery job, I got a phone call from a University that needs instructors. I had sent my resume to them two months prior and out of the blue, they call and need someone to take over several classes.

I told them I was waiting to find out about another position, but they wanted to see me anyway. So I went and “auditioned” for the teaching position (in front of some staff) and they offered the job to me on the spot. I told them I would let them know by Friday (today) at the latest.

Back to the mystery job. The agency called, the owner liked me a lot, his assistant loves me (which I kind of thought) and everything is all fine and dandy, but they have decided to wait until the first or second quarter when they restructure and have real job descriptions. The owner swears I will be the first they call, and my agency seems fairly certain it is not a snow-job-kiss-off, and that he will indeed call back.

So I quickly call the school.

They couldn’t wait and gave away all but one night class. I have been hired to teach that class, and my guess is that I will have more when their second quarter begins, but that one day wait to find out about this mystery job cost me quite a bit of money…the difference between a nice salary (full time) to a nice part-time job (meager salary).

All in all, this was certainly an interesting experience.

Will they call back and will I take the job?
No idea.
A lot can happen in the next few months, and next time, I think it would be nice to actually see a job description on paper.

Still, even though I shot myself in the foot by waiting and not taking the teaching position immediately, I think I did the right thing.

The agency has submitted my resume to another company that is more in the field I want to get into, but they have told me this company drags their heels in getting back to them, so who knows - might have another day job soon.

In the meantime, I won’t starve, am teaching at a school I like, a course I like and it is only about 7 minutes from my house.

As far as I am concerned, life is good and despite it being Friday the 13th, I consider this a lucky day!

Thanks for all the comments, and should there be a follow up in the future, I will revive this thread and fill you in.

At least you got something out of the whole shebang, which isn’t too bad.

Please let us know if they do call you back come springtime.
