I have the opportunity to meet GWB. What should I do?

Me neither, outside of his politics and morals.

Like many other morally bankrupt, spoiled, and intellectually feeble people, he’s probably fairly amusing to sit at a bar drinking beer with. I’m afraid the horror inherent in realizing that “smug, smartass rich kid who likes to tell jokes at the bar” is President of the United States of America, with the power of life and death over thousands (possibly millions) of people, would detract somewhat from my elation over a chance to meet the man, ever had I the opportunity.

Thanks for all of your responses. What I forgot to mention earlier is that I don’t live that close to Sofia - it’s a three hour bus ride each way. And I realized that I wouldn’t just miss one day of school, I’d have to miss Tuesday, too. Add in the expense of lodging and food and of course bus tickets (and Sofia is hugely expensive compared to the rest of Bulgaria - I wrecked my budget last month by spending too much time there and have resolved to avoid the place), and it just seems like too much trouble to shake the hand of someone I loathe.

Nah comon, this is 2007

PWNED!!

To the OP, I could think of about 700 reasons to detest the mans methods and politics, but like it or not, it is a privelege to have the opportunity of meeting/photo op with him.

You can tell your grandkids he was congratulating you on your new cabinet post or something.

So be sneaky about it, was it Mallrats that featured a scene where someone leaves their hand down their trousers for a while then shakes hands with someone they really hate?

“What are you doing with that can of whipped cream Daddy?”

[hijack] How do you pronounce that, anyway? [/hijack]

Just like it’s spelled.

I loathe the guy, and my first thought was to not bother. But I think curiousity would impel me to do it. I might get an insight into how this idiot has managed to fuck up so much without being called out for it.

Also, it seems like a good opportunity to do some serious network building, if you’re into that sort of thing (and I think everybody should be into that sort of thing, even if I suck at it).

If I were in your situation I’d read some books or articles written from a different point of view and see if I could learn something new. That’s usually worked pretty well for me in the past, professionally, politically, etc. But if you are already an expert on why people admire GWB and the administration and still feel the way you do, I have no advise at all, except maybe have fun whatever you decide.

I say pawned but based on other posts here, “powned” like TONED is also common.

I like to think of the W as a lower case Greek omega (which looks similar to a W and is pronounced as a long O), so I mentally hear the “powned” (rhymes with toned) pronunciation.

I shook the hands of President Bush (Senior) and President Clinton. I don’t think you’ll have much of a chance to do anything. I was in arm’s length of both of them for less than a second.

::shudder The omega reminds me of some immature math TA who described it as a backside and the lower-case gamma as a penis. I can’t look at them the same way anymore.

60% of the time, it works every time.

Personally, I wouldn’t cross the street to piss on our President if he were on fire, so I wouldn’t do it, but as kelly5078 pointed out, will you be missing out on networking opportunities at the surrounding festivities?
