I have tried In-n-out burger... now what?

I’m not sure what scares me more - that they will make this monster, or that they have a box ready-made to hold it. Do you need to show evidence of medical insurance to order it?

As for their more normal offerings, I’ll have to remember “animal style” and well-done fries. The last time I tried In-n-Out, I was severly unimpressed. I could tell that everything was fresh, but it was also blah.

If we’re talking about one-off places, when I was in college in Winona, Minnesota there was this restaurant that would serve a large dinner plate-sized burger.

There’s a place in Monterey, CA that will do the same thing.

Oh god. There’s a place in Clearfield, PA I used to frequent that made these ridiculously large hamburgers. I came close to finishing one of their ‘baby’ burgers - the half pounder.
How anyone could eat a 6 lb. burger is beyond me.

Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub

I wondered about that myself. However, a close inspection will reveal that the kitchen crew improvised that box with a couple of the boxes their supplies come in, and a bunch of tape.

Not being a fan of grilled onions, I usually order a 4x4, sometimes adding fries well-done with special sauce to dip them in.

Back when I was at college, we had a game night/ LAN party with the 10x10 challenge, but I didn’t get a chance to enter. IIRC, only one person out of eight actually finished.

Kirk’s Steakburgers are great, but Fudruckers sucks. (To me, anyway; feel free to eat there your damn self.)

Has anybody had a Backyard Burger? My wife and I went there one day thinking it was like a Red Robin only to find out it was a fast food joint? We left and went to Ruby Tuesdays, but I have been curios about what Backyard Burger is.

Tommy’s chili will kill you. With every mouthful you can feel your arteries clogging. But it’s soooo good.

Ever been to The Shack? Their burger with the split hot link on top is really good too.

I’ve been very good, I’ve only succumbed to the siren song that is Tommy’s chili and cheese burger and chili and cheese fries 3 times in the last year.

I’m trying to drop 15 pounds by the end of July so I’ll just have to lash myself to the mast and ride the storm out for a while.

There is one in Kingman Arizona, which I lived about 25 miles from and made a special trip to every week (even though I lived 5 minutes from an In and Out) and another in Big Spring Texas.Hope that helps.
Stuck up here in Michigan…Not-a-What-a-Burger to be found.

I don’t know how big of a region they cover, but I’ve only ever seen a Backyard Burger in Raleigh NC. Decent burger, nothing too special. I’d go for a Red Robin burger over Backyard, but of course Red Robin costs twice as much.

How about truth in naming: the Heart Attack Grill. They serve only giant burgers, fries, Jolt, beer and cigarettes. That’s the whole menu. Oh, and the waitresses are in slutty nurse costumes.

Not to make this an LA love fest. But where is this, The Shack? I am in North Hollywood these days, is it anywhere close?

This thread reminds me of a question I’ve been meaning to post, and I apologize for the hijack.

How good are Red Robin burgers? We’re getting one of these joints in our town, and I’m curious if it’s a good burger.

I like 'em. Especially the Teriaki and the one with poblano peppers. The garlic fries are to die for, but the onion rings aren’t anything special.

The drinks are expensive, and the place tends to incredibly LOUD at all times. Pretty good service for a family-oriented place.

I would give a fairly positive reveiw. It’s a real burger rather than an overcooked slab of meat. It is a little like a Chili’s that specializes in burgers. Unlike Chili’s, they will successfully cook your burger to order. None of this, “the best we can do is medium and your lucky to get that” crap.

It’s in Santa Monica, on Wilshire. There’s another in Playa Del Rey and some in Hawai’i, but I’ve only ever been to the Santa Monica location.

I have totally been to their Hawai’i location in Kailua! It was great, but I thought it was a local place. I had no idea that I only had to go over to Santa Monica to get more.

Nice!

That is so cool.

Hey, I want to explain that my initial “Metamucil” comment wasn’t meant as a critisizm of hambergur joints, but a commentary on the aging digestive system. I love junk food. One of my favorites is Papa Murphy’s stuffed pizza. I quickly discovered though, that after eating this delicacy, I wasn’t going to shit for days without some help. I have now come to realize, that anytime I eat crap, my digestive system needs a little encouragement. A good hamburger is awsome, but it needs to be followed by a dose of fiber.

Definitely a good burger. It’s not worshipfully fantastic, but I’ve never had a bad meal at Red Robin. The fries are good, and unlimited to boot. I’ll echo MadPansy64, though. It’s a loud restaurant. I swear they intentionally designed the acoustics in the one near me to maximize the noise. If that’s not a problem for you, though, definitely give it a shot.
