I hear tell Josh Kirby has died

I know there are a lot of Terry Pratchett fans here, so when I read this I thought that I must rush over to tell people - that is, unless they already knew. And I don’t know if they did.

The Josh Kirby covers are generally unavailable in most of the US editions of the Pratchett books, but they are extremely distinctive, and often disturbingly funny, on the bookshelves around other countries. I’m gonna miss those colourful unique splashes of brilliance in the future of Discworld. :frowning:

No!

I met the man once, at the '96 Discworld Conference. We had a bit of a chat and he showed me his preliminary sketches for the “Hogfather” cover. The sweet man had no idea of his value to the attendees and was trying to keep out of the way so as to not be a bother. I had to persuade him that for the weekend at least he genuinely was a VIP and should behave as such!

He was a genuinely really nice guy. I mourn.

And the books won’t be the same without him.

AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!

Yes, I’m a fan of the Josh Kirby covers (and I live in the 'States, so I have to pay extra to get them), and I am definitely bummed by this news.

Terry will probably get Paul Kidby to do the covers from now on (and he is a very good choice), but Kirby had a terrific ability to cram tons of chaos into a cover, and I will miss that…
