I *heart* Mozilla products...

So I just got a new Mac (yay me!), and I saved my Thunderbird and Firefox files as part of my backup when I transferred. Now, what’s important here is that my old computer was eight years old, and only had OSX 10.2 (and only applications that could run on that version). I downloaded the latest versions of Firefox and Thunderbird onto my new computer, then just pasted all my files from my old folders into the new.

Voila! All my bookmarks back, all my e-mails accessible, all my preferences and plugins in place! I can’t imagine being able to do it so easily with any other software (perhaps I’m wrong, but I can’t think of it).

And to think it took me so long to switch over from Netscape… I’m a happy camper now…

I’d always thought switching from Netscape to Mozilla would have been much better than having to put up with Internet Explorer in the middle.

As for whether other software can do what you did, well, it depends on how far apart the versions were. I would find it particularly surprising if you went from version 2 to 3, as many plugins had to change completely to accomplish that change, and, as far as I know, Mozilla never made the upgrading of version 2 plugins to version 3 automatic.

In fact, you might really just be “hearting” Macs, as Windows programs often store stuff in the registry, making what you did impossible.

Really? Huh; they seem to be working fine so far. Then again, I only have two plugins so far: Adblock Plus and NoScript, and I suppose one or both COULD be only “pretending” to work. But NS seems to be fine so far…

Heh, could be, could be.

Doing the same trick works just fine in the Windows version. Handy.
