I itch

My back, my legs, my arms. Not poison ivy, although I have a bit of that throughout the summer. Sort of like the bug-crawly feeling you get on some meds. But I haven’t really taken anything different today. I had a maxalt this morning because of a migraine, but I’ve taken that before. My clothes are all fresh from the dryer. It’s really hard to sit relatively still at my desk.

Any suggestions or helpful hints?

I believe I heard years ago that the itching sensation is actually pain. Are in you a position to take an aspirin or Advil? Seems like low risk, and if it helps…

Rascal’s Mom - I hadn’t heard that. I could take some ibu. Thanks!

No prob. Could you post back a little later to let me know if it helped?

I itch, therefore I scratch.

Itching is one of the warning signs of diabetes. Are you constantly hungry, thirsty, going to the bathroom? Unexplained weight loss? Are you in the classic risk category? If the itching keeps up, and especially if you have one or more of the other warning signs, get to a doctor and get looked at.

If it makes you feel any better, my dad recently learned an important lesson: If you have athletes foot, put your socks on before your underwear. Bonus for him, he was out of the country, without access to medical care, when he learned this lesson. When he got back to the US, he reported that he had a rather unfortunate rash.

I don’t know if that helps, but I know that hearing of others’ woes sometimes make my own suck a little less. I’ll be sending itch-free thoughts your way.

I got really itchy at work the other day, and couldn’t think of anything I had done different. No new soap, no new clothes, no new detergent, nothing. Then at almost closing time, it hit me. The exterminator had been in and sprayed the building that morning. Next day, no itchy.

MissMossie -Oh. Dear. I’m pretty sure that’s not my issue, but you made me chuckle.

Lynn Bodoni - Not thirstier. No weight loss. But a definite family history of adult-onset diabetes. My father and all of his 5 siblings were diabetic, and two of my sisters are diabetic. The sisters are obese. I’m not, although I could lose some weight. But neither were my father or are any of his sibs. I’m suppose to see my doctor in a couple weeks. I might ask about testing, just in case. I also had my thyroid removed last year. Thyroid can do a lot of things. I take levoxyl, but the reason for the doctor visit is to get my levels checked.

Until I was talking to my mother tonight I forgot that I had been bitten or stung by something on my back last night. Maybe it’s a histimine reaction to that.

If this keeps up much longer, I think I would have it checked out at an ER. Did you see what bit you? Where were you when it bit?

Where were you last year??? I had to learn this the hard way. Anyway, I’ve been using anti-fungal creme on my feet. I have psoriasis and I’ve found that hydrocortisone creme helps for any itchiness that I’ve had elsewhere.
Whatever you do, don’t scratch, it makes things worse.
