If the alternative is humoring California’s pity party, sure.
Okay, but I don’t advocate secession.
I am in Nevada and I do, as do many others.
to the OP: people dismiss this as impossible. just like Rump getting the nomination. never happen.
this is how I know it could happen.
We won’t lose our US citizenship. We will have dual citizenship as we live in the Republic of California. We will continue using the US dollar unless and until we vote on vote on creating a new currency. California is currently a donor state, paying more to the Federal government than it receives each year.
Who says you won’t lose your US citizenship? That’s pretty much a sine qua non of declaring independence.
I think you might be confused. My post was directed to California generally in the event that its voters decide to leave the union. Not that I don’t think we’d be poorer for the loss (though not as much worse off as California itself would be), and that I don’t support Californians’ right to self-determination, I just think it’s a stupid idea and they should get over the election results.
What defense forces does California need? Today’s danger isn’t from a foreign power invading California, it’s from international terrorism. Terrorism that’s directed at the United States because of many things the US has done and stands for. None of this will apply to California. Remember, California is home to many of the US’s largest military bases. Navy bases, Marine Corps bases, Air Force and Coast Guard bases. We’ll happily lease those bases to the US if they choose to keep them.
California is one of the top 10 global economies. We need to keep tax dollars in California, not send them to Washington.
And yes, your Social Security will continue. The US pays social security benefits to citizens living in foreign lands monthly.
Medicade, medicare. Will continue or improve. As will education, K through 16. Some of the Best universities in the world are in CA.
From YesCalifornia…
*California loses an average of $16 billion each year by remaining a U.S.
state. That is the deficit between the amount of federal taxes we pay each
year versus the amount of federal spending in California.
*
and
*With these funds freed up, an independent California will be able to
improve the quality of life of our people by reinvesting in schools, hospitals,
and infrastructure. We will be able to do this while maintaining every job,
agency, program, grant, and service that you currently receive from the
state or federal government. However, with an entire level of government
bureaucracy eliminated (the federal government), there is bound to be quite
a bit of streamlining which will save even more taxpayer money.
*
There’s no promise that taxes will decrease, only that our money will be used to benefit OUR population.
This is one of the real reasons for the vote. Why should we remain a “donor” state to a broken system?
First, we need to take Oregon and Washington with us. Deny the USA its entire Pacific coast (aside from Alaska). We’ll need Hawaii, too, and then commandeer the entire US Pacific naval fleet, making us a superpower.
Then we will need Nevada, too, or at least Hoover Dam.
Then we invade Arizona.
It will be glorious.
Imagine, for a moment, that you are somehow successful.
How long before Northern California would decide to split from Southern California?
Quebec separatists have been making these same arguments since before I was born.
You will never convince a significant proportion of any population to leave by saying they can have their cake and eat it too.
Maybe, maybe not. But CA is typically a left leaning republic as it stands. 60/40. That’s all it will take. It’s not about having your cake and eating it too. We’re paying for way more cake than we’re eating here. We just want to keep California cake in California.
I’d worry more about Oregon seeing the light, then Washington. If California is successful, the door will open. I’ve seen nothing in the information regarding any sister states being involved in #Calexit.
Don’t forget Colorado, we need to secure the Colorado River watershed. I think they have oil sands, too.
This is a naïve stance. If we lease bases to the USA, then any terrorist not happy with California’s military bases will attack California.
This begs for a California leader who has good business sense. We don’t win anymore. We need to win again. Everyone takes advantage of us. This needs to change, by firing the leaders and replacing them with someone with good business sense.
You are making a very good Trump-like argument.
There is no plan for an offensive military. We won’t need one. We’re not interested in protecting the world, just those within our our Republic.
Travel will be as it is now. Citizens of California will enjoy dual citizenship. We’ll be able to, if ever the need arises, visit Arizona and the rest of the US.
Will their also be a unicorn for each citizen?
So, why should we keep subjecting ourselves to presidents we play no role in electing, to 382 representatives and 98 senators we can’t vote for, and all the government officials and federal judges appointed by those very same people we don’t elect.
YesCalifornia.
We can’t help but do better.
No, California leans Democratic.
This is just as stupid when it’s a non-Texan saying it.
