I joined, and pledged support to Yes California today.

Drought plagued state. Nope. It’s rained all winter here. Look here.

As pointed out, only 10% of CA"s water comes from sources that could be “cut off.” in the event of a cut off, I’m pretty sure CA would implement conservation measures that included cutting off US asset within CA from our water, if such a thing happened. All those military bases in CA with no water?

Remember, CA is one of the few states that scored high on the national IQ test on Nov 8th. 2/3 voted blue. Civil war is about as possible in CA as finding the Dutchman’s gold mine.

Civil War is a certainty to born and raised Californians like me. I will not sit idly by and let a few morons take away my birth rite. I don’t know who you think will fight for an independent California.

And you would be promptly arrested and tried. It’s still against the law.

See the Philippine protocol, previously discussed.

Moat of our water comes from the snowfall in the mountains. Keep your facts straight.

We wouldn’t need the FBi, we have state police. SSA is easily privatized for CA.
And the post office. It’s a private business, they would probably want to continue doing business in CA.

Assume, if history is any example of what happens, the WORLD would step in and help, just like CA does when other nations are hit by an unfortunate event.

You misspelled “orange” years. You know, the years of the Orange plague epidemic?

You’ll be one of the first tried and imprisoned in CA (under CA law).

The people who do the arresting here would most likely be fighting along side me.

We do not have a state version of the FBI. We have the CHP which polices the freeway system. And the Post Office is funded by the Feds.

We have no state equivalent of the post office, the SSA, the FBI or the armed forces.

Well, you do have the National Guard and the California Bureau of Investigation. I bet California could just hire the USPS to continue on until a replacement is set up, not like they’re rolling in dough.

Sure, they will become felons in support of your ridiculous notion? Unlikely.

We don’t need a state version of the FBI. Simply a matter of expanding the California State Police, the states security agency.

I wonder what sort of a drop-off rate you’d get when you asked all the formerly-CANG members to re-up for the new #CalExit security forces (or is #CalExit just planning on going with no military at all?). If I had to guess, I suspect it’d be quite high.

I don’t think the USPS has a contract-for-foreign-governments option like that.

Im fairly certain that most members of the National Guard consider themselves Americans rather than Californians. Its likely that only our own Morgenstern and a few others hold a pre Civil War version of state identity.

I guess but the fact remains that California does have a rough equivalent of a military and FBI.

CA wouldn’t need a military. It would be unnecessary. CA would need the equivalent of the Coast Guard for the coasts and waterways, and that’s about it. A guard (military) that provided a service to the citizens other than practicing for war all day long. We’re in 0 danger of being invaded. Seriously, no one would invade a sovereign nation with 38+ million people and 60+ million guns.

CA faces the same problem all of the US faces in solo or small group terrorists attacks. The military does little to protect from that. Offensive military would be unnecessary. We don’t need to sail to the other side of the world and bomb people for disagreeing with out goals.

You’re guessing. 56% of the people polled in the last poll (quoted herein) said they were Californian first, American second.

What’s your source for that? I’d be (pleasantly) surprised if there that many guns in gun-hating California.

Well, sounds like Morgenstern’s plan is to get rid of that military equivalent:

This is a very long thread, so please forgive me. Presumably at some point it was discussed how California could convince 38 states to agree with its secession (as indicated would be necessary in either way forward at the Yes California website)? If so, could someone point that out to me? That feels implausible.

Whoops - I’ve been stocking up.

No, unfortunately in 24 pages I haven’t seen a plausible answer given.

Not only you.

1.51 million background checks in CA in 2015.
1.49 million in CA in 2014.
