I had one guy from high school send a friend request. The name sounded familiar, so I looked him up in my yearbook. I honestly do not remember any interaction I had with the guy, so I ignored his request.
I really do like knowing what old high school and college friends are up to, even if it’s just an update here or there. I tend to feel guilty about losing touch with people and it makes me feel better to have an easy way to say hello to them and know they are OK, etc. I love hearing from old friends from out of the blue that have found me on there.
Also, I have met some people through fan pages and we message back and forth about the things we are interested in. Kind of like a pen pal or message board buddies!
I hated most of those jock bastards back then, why would I want to know about them now?
I thought I’d be visiting them in jail out of pity, but I’m going to my bank asking them to borrow money.
Well I decided to join Facebook partly to look for old high school friends and partly because of this thread.
I joined a few groups on FB that seemed interesting. Will I inadvertently spam all my friends everytime I post to these groups? How do I turn stuff like that off?
After you login, hover your cursor over “settings” in the upper right of the page. From there what you are looking for will be under Privacy Settings. Under News Feed & Wall. I think.
I suggest just taking a few minutes to mess around with the settings anyways just to see what will be public and what won’t.
As an update, I know how to use Facebook a little now. I have about 90% female friends on it and I keep finding out that I could have had them in high school and college if I wanted to. Thanks for that information but it would have been more useful if I got the e-mail about 20 years sooner. Some of them still look pretty good though so I might do a driving tour this summer and make it like a scavenger hunt for myself. I still don’t know what those stupid games are about though.
I unchecked ‘Post on a Discussion Board’. I assume that is it. This facebook contraption is more complicated then I thought it would be.
It’s only complicated because they give you so much control over your privacy, which is a good thing.
I just signed on for the Straight Dope FB page thingie.
Another time waster is just what I need!
THANKS!
