I just bought a business suit for $19.47

I went to Savers on a recommendation from a friend. They have a mixture of new and used clothing. The new stuff is inspector-rejected merchandise, often from good brands.

I’m not a wealthy person, but I’m interviewing for a management position with a business semi-casual (jacket and tie required) dress code. My 20 dollar suit doesn’t have obvious defects I can find, but the jacket bunches up a little at the shoulders. If I get the position, I’ll be doing all my work shopping there.

I’m 6’4", 250 lbs. I was very surprised to find clothes that fit me there.

Anyway, wish me luck in my interview!

Good luck! I hope you get the job.

At that price, it might have come off a dead man. Check for stab holes.

FWIW, I recently went to an interview (with a very prestigious organisation in Pall Mall, London) wearing a ensemble that cost me £60 in total, all new. Suit, shirt, tie and shoes. I got the job and they commented on how well I was turned out.

If it is clean, well ironed and you carry it with confidence it’ll be no problem.

Update: The interview went remarkably well. The interrog…err, interview team was a panel of 3 director-level managers (this is a very large company), one of which nearly got me fired from my current position a little over a year ago. I was sure I had no chance at this point, which strangely actually loosened me up a bit.

They started asking questions, I nailed the first of them and just kept picking up steam. By the end, the very strictly formal interview had turned into more of a casual conversation, and I felt very comfortable. I’m still not sure I’ll get the job, but I’m very satisfied with the performance of my new lucky suit.

Nice find and congrats on the good interview! We actually have a very nice suit coat that I need to find a home for. I keep meaning to ask the career services office at school if they know of anyone who needs one but I keep forgetting.
I absolutely love Savers. I don’t know if they all do this but the two in Worcester have 50% off everything sales on most major holidays. My mom and I always go on those days and I usually spend about $15 just buying blankets (for my dogs - they all love blankets and love to destroy blankets). I don’t mind them destroying them for such a low cost.

Glad things went well for you. Hope you get the gig! Now, how about a pic of you in your new cheap duds?

Virtually all of my jackets bunch a bit near the nape of my neck when I bring them home off the rack. If you can find a decent tailor and are wiling to spend a bit more money you should be able to get these flaws taken care of, and your $20 business suit might turn into a $60 business suit that looks like a $400 business suit.

Good luck!

Hope you didn’t leave the price tag showing!

Good luck!

Congratulations on your find! and on a great interview!
