I just bought a digital camera!

I’m so excited. I got approved for credit at Best Buy and picked up this sexy little number. I can’t wait to play with it

and 24 months interest free was something I just couldn’t pass up. I heard about it this morning and bought it this afternoon.

Well, that’s my pointlessness for the day. Woo!

OOOOOhhhhh 3.2 megapixels!

Thats’ quite a few. I think my $35 Walmart digital camera has 7 pixels.

I want a nice digital camera.

Cruise on over to http://www.beechbrook.com/pte/ to see what a lot of folks have been doing with the digital photos they have. The common thing with all of those shows is that they use the same program I’ve been using for over a year now to make slideshows: Pictures2Exe.

Mighty fine camer you got yerserlf, btw.

Get lots of batteries. Lots and lots of batteries. When you think you have enough, double the amount, and get that.

An investment in some NiMH rechargeables will save you some headaches.

unfortunately, it uses rechargeables only, but it seems to hold charges for a good bit. Claiming 200 photo snaps on one charge. I probably will buy another and keep it charged though.

Most people I know seem to have Sony Cybershots and I’ve been pretty impressed with them. I love the marine pack accessory you can get with this camera - almost makes you want to take up scuba diving just to use it.

I had a Minolta in mind, but the Best Buy I went to doesn’t sell them, apparently. But I’ve been browsing the accesories, and I’m pretty happy I decided to get it. I’m drooling over the 1gigabyte memory sticks right now. They’re only $880! Don’t think I’ll be getting one of those for a loooong time.

This random picture is the best I think I have ever had of myself.

Unfortunately? I don’t get what you mean … that it uses rechargeables seems to be a good thing.

Oh, it is. It’s just that i’d like to have the option to use AA or AAA batteries if I was running low on power and not in a place where I could recharge.

Nice camera! I contemplated getting this one (actually a model lower) when I visited the States a few months ago (cameras are a LOT cheaper in the US, compared to Europe). I decided against it: a couple of friends of mine have Sony’s. One of them has a 3.2 MegaPixel model with a Zeiss lense (about 3 years old), and it’s quite impressive in quality. Another friend bought a 2.0 MegaPixel model recently (the DSP-51 or something?), and I was unimpressed by the picture quality. Aparently, the standard Sony lenses aren’t as good as the Zeiss lenses in the higher end models. Does yours have the Zeiss lense?

Which is why I ended up with a “real” camera brand in the end: I wanted a good lense more than I wanted lots of pixels. Seeing as 2 megapixels already exceeds the size of my computer screen by a huge margin, I figured it would do nicely. I ended up buying a Canon PowerShot 200 (identical to the European Ixus V2). It’s been great so far: as with every camera, you need to learn how to operate it for maximum effect. But the good thing is that obvious screw-ups show up on the LCD and can be thrown out rightaway, and slight mistakes you’ll see on your PC - still no harm done in terms of print costs. I’m particularly impressed by its close-up capabilities: I can get to within 10 centimeters of, say, a flower, and still get a great shot. It works fantastic in outdoors situations. With a tripod, it gets good interior shots as well, without flash. The flash is typical for any small camera: overly harsh under 3 meters, and inadequate for anything over. Then again, if you want good flash lightning, don’t buy a compact camera.

I bought it with just the standard battery, but ended up ordering 2 extra ones (generic, from SterlingTek.com) for about $42 including postage to Europe. The original batteries turned out to be about $65 a piece in shops over here!

For the camera, including a 128 MB memory card and a LoewePro pouch, I payed about $300 in total, which is slightly more than half of what it would have cost me over here. Good deal. Oh, I bought it at Fry’s Electronics.

One of my requirements is that the camera use standard size batteries so I can use rechargeables or not and not be tied to the manufacturer. That’s why I got a Fuji 1400 and then a Fuji 2400. Otherwise they have you by the balls and I do not like being in that position.

I just bought an Olympus mju 300 digital camera, which is lovely, but I loathe the Camedia 4.1 software that comes with it.

You rang?

Funny thing, seeing this thread posted over the weekend. I too just bought a digital camera. I got the Nikon Coolpix 4300, 4 Mpx, and gosh! it’s so tiny. And I did get a spare battery and a larger (128 MB) memory card. I’m thinking I need another two even-larger cards.

Fantasea just came out with a dive case for the CP 4300. So now I’m going to go get that too. Then it’s time to go jump in a lake! (or shipwreck, reef, etc.)

You’ve gone SONY…so get the Biggest Damn Memory Stick in creation (mine came with a puny 16 and now sports a 128 meg).

My Cybershot experience is bitter/sweet however: There is a 3 second processor lag between shutter button click and picture taking…and a Lot can happen w/i 3 seconds. Rarely, I get an even better picture, but mostly its too little, too late. Its one of the reasons I’ll always still use my film Nikon.

Aha! Processor lag is less than one second on the Canon, my friends.
