Mundane, I know, and bordering on pointless, yes, but if you experienced the old, rickety, and dangerous gas grill that my loving boyfriend doesn’t ever want to give up, you would understand my glee!
Got a standard issue charcoal kettle, the “gold” series with the ash catcher and hinged grill rack. And picked up some mesquite briquets. And we’re having some NY strips tonight, and this time I’M cooking.
How dare you! You’re a Weber owner now…you’ve got the gold standard of barbeque grills…never refer to such a fact as “mundane” or “pointless”!
I, of course, will refer to myself as jealous.
We’ve been shopping around for a grill now that our new patio is complete, and have been referred to Webers on several occasions. This may have sealed the deal…
We’ll go BBQ shopping this weekend. Anyone have a particular model* they prefer?
I should note that even though we prefer a charcoal BBQ, for practical reasons, we’re probably going to go with propane.
Our Weber kettle is at least 30 years old, and still going strong. Still gets used whenever we’re just cooking for the two of us. For larger groups I break out the smoker (a 55 gallon drum converted into one kickass smoker/grill.) The last thing cooked on the Weber was marinated steak tips and veggies, last weekend.
I mean- I don’t know what it is, but having one of these things is like having a new car! It’s all pretty with a beautiful paint job- I feel all proud of it!
I’m wanting to get one of those little side tables that hooks over the edge, to set stuff on.
I just can’t wait! What IS it about the Weber brand??? It’s just so rock solid!
Webers rock. Once I was mislead and bought a gas grill, convenience, you know. I used it about a month and sold it - there was no good grilled-food taste with a gas grill! In the meantime I had given my Weber away. My SO bought another type of charcoal grill on sale (a Coleman, I think) it wasn’t the same. I used it about a year and then bought a Weber again. I’ll never use anything else. I jsut have a regular old Weber kettle charcoal grill.
Well, I’m by no means a grill expert, but I always stop to look at the offerings when I venture over to Lowes or Home Depot.
I think one important part of a grill is the actual grilling surface. In those classic Webers, it’s a thin metal grate.
I own a Char-griller Pro with the side smoker attachment. It’s cheaper (by about $20) at Lowes than on the website and it’s got a heavy cast iron grilling surface that really holds the heat and puts those good sear lines on your meat.
I highly recommend the thing for grilling. Lots of surface area for big parties, adjustable height coal bin, top chimney, side air intakes, top warming rack for buns and such. I rarely use the smoker, though, but if you’re inclined it works pretty well.
I have one eye on my parents’ Weber - they have a gas grill, I was the only one to use the Weber when I lived there. I’m thinking one day they might be over my house and say “hey where’d you get that used Weber?”
in fact, I also got a cover, and a surface temp thermometer, and some indirect heat side coal holder thingies, and one of those side racks that holds the grill lid—I kinda splurged!!!
