Good job! Now tomorrow morning try to remember what you did so that when you go to shower, you don’t use half the shampoo bottle. I still take way too much shampoo, and I cut my hair months ago.
My wife wants to do this as well. She has a couple more inches to grow, and then she was going to look into how to donate her hair. Thanks for the link, I’ll pass that on to her now.
They don’t apprear to take hair thingies. I’ll probably give them away to friends. I have one friend who is constantly going around with pens and pencils holding up her bun, and I’m sure she’ll enjoy some of the pins and sticks.
I’m glad the link was helpful, fishbicycle. Having such a great cause to donate my hair to really made the decision to cut it short easier. And the stylist who cut my hair said that it would make a great wig (or wigs) because it’s very strong and healthy. I didn’t use any “product” or blowdry my hair. I guess I’m going to have to learn how, though, 'cause I don’t think this short 'do will behave itself without at least a little mousse or gel.
So far I’m loving it, though! Everyone says it looks great. Tip: If you want to go through the day with people doing double-takes, sticking their head into your office and saying, “WHAT THE HELL!?!” and in general paying you lots of attention, hack your hair off.
WOO HOO! I gave 18 or 19 inches about 2 yrs. ago and shaved my head bald. My boyfriend and I had only been dating for about 1 month at the time and he thought when he first saw me that it was some kind of test.
I am currently trying to grow my hair out so I can do it all over again! I encourage everyone I know to do it. Also, during St. Patty’s day there are places around the country that host “St. Baldrick’s Day” celebrations. IIRC you take donations from people who want to see you bald, and then you get your head shaved on stage. Here in OK, I think they even let some kids that have cancer help with the shaving. Very fun event from what I’ve heard, and your hair doesn’t need to be a certain length to participate. You can go here and check it out, but it looks as though they’re updating their site right now.
I read about this program a couple of years ago. Some little girls in the Atlanta heard about and donated their hair to the cause. They then convinced all their long-hair girlfriends to do the same. They never batted an eyelash. After the hair was cut, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place.
Nice one; tell me if this works for you (it did wen I went from hairy wild man to skinhead overnight); can you sense people sneaking up on you from behind by feeling their radiated body heat on the back of your head?
I donated 19 inches of curls about three years ago and quickly realized just how much I like my hair short. It hasn’t touched even my shoulders since then. Just give yourself time to get used to it and you might find you like it quite a bit.
I gave one eleven inch and one twelve inch pigtail to LoL last March. (I have no idea how they ended up two different sizes. They both came from the same head!) My hair ended up very short and I felt like I’d been scalped for a few days. Washing it in the shower was weird; I’d take what felt like a tiny dot of shampoo and end up with suds everywhere!
By now I hope some little girl is happily staring in the mirror at a full head deep reddish-brown curls
Pod’s morning hair report: I washed my hair in the evening, as is my usual custom, and got up this morning to find that it was all poofed up and silly looking. However, a little bit of hair gel tamed it right down, and I was pleased to discover that I could do a pretty good imitation of the style I got from the hairdresser without all the goop that she put in.
I think hair goo technology has improved since the last time I used any significant amount of it. I just stopped by the variety store yesterday and grabbed something at random (Garinier Fructis Shake Effect Liqui-Gel, which comes in a cutie little spherical bottle), and it’s giving me pretty good hold without making my hair feel stiff and sticky.
It feels so fun to run my fingers through my hair and to let the wind blow it around and knowing that it’s not going to be tangled up in knots!
Sorry, AwSnappity, I try to keep personal identifying info of the boards, so you’ll have to use the Power of Your Imagination. Before: Chick with hair down to her butt. No style. Wore it up in a bun most days, some days put it into a braid. Somewhat attention-grabbing due to its overall length, but, then, I never wore it loose. I.e. BORING! After: Chick with a short, fun hairstyle! Very short in the back and sides, longish and touseled on top (where I am fighting a very assertive natural center part!), but with very short bangs. It’s kind of masculine, I guess. One of the reasons that I’ve had long hair forever is that it was my one token feminine feature . . . but lately I’ve been updating my wardrobe and wearing makeup, so I think now I’m feminine enough to have a boyish haircut.
(Why do we humans spend so much time and emotional energy on strings of dead protein growing out of our scalps??? Amazing, isn’t it?)
