I just got back from a month in Europe (on the cheap because I have family in several countries I can stay with) and can I just say that Barcelona is one of the coolest cities. It’s been 12 years since I last visited my brother and his family there. Tapas bars! Gaudi! La Rambla! Go Catalan independence!
So nice to be home, except dammit they’re already talking about an early “polar freeze,” there are patches of snow and ice in my yard, and I am not thrilled about this.
I am glad you enjoyed your trip! Barcelona is a fantastic place, and the roughly 5 years that I spent there while I studied in the University were magnificent. There are so many places that are highly recommendable…! Of all the big cities in the world that I have seen or lived in, Barcelona always struck me as being the one with the most “soul”, so to speak.
(As to Catalan Independence, I would say that in the end it would be rather more harmful than beneficial to Catalonia, but hey, if that is what they want…).
I spent a week in Barcelona, and it wasn’t nearly enough. What I enjoyed the most, aside from all the Gaudí places, was that music building downtown, with the inverted stained-glass dome and the muses on the stage. And the market off the Ramblas. Wish I were there right now.
