I just found out I'm psychic! Or: Funny Coincidences

Getting lunch in the cafeteria just now, I overheard two coworkers, a man and a woman, talking. I couldn’t quite hear what they were saying, but I could clearly hear the man’s beautiful, resonant baritone - it was really incredible. I was half-considering telling him he had an amazing voice and asking if he had worked in radio, but as I moved toward them, I decided against it. Then, just as I passed them, I heard the woman say to him, “By the way, I’ve been meaning to ask you: have you ever considered doing voice work for us [our company]?” I almost laughed out loud. From her tone, it was clearly a complete change of subject, so it’s not that I subconsciously picked up their earlier conversation or anything. I just knew.

After thinking about it, I realized it’s not actually that much of a coincidence. The chance that someone overhearing them would be admiring his voice at the moment she made that comment is probably approaching 100%. His voice was just that good. But it did seem weird for a moment.

And incidentally, he wasn’t interested in doing voiceovers. More’s the pity.

My wife and I play trivia every Sunday evening at a local bar. We usually have a few friends that play with us, but two weeks ago it was just the two of us. There is a half-time question that has four questions and you get three points for each correct answer. We were joking around and wondering what the half-time question might be. My wife is a pretty big soap opera fan and she joked, “Maybe it will be ‘What are the four daytime soap operas currently on the air?’” That was the exact question that was asked.
Last Sunday we were playing trivia with a friend of ours that is usually on the team. The host asks a question then plays a song and you have the length of the song to turn in your answer. We had already turned in our answer and we then started talking about the TV show Freaks And Geeks. As we were talking about the show the next song, Bad Reputation by Joan Jett, began playing. Bad Reputation is the opening theme song on Freaks And Geeks.

Now those are good!

I remember one a professor in college told us: he was at a lecture, and it was pretty boring, so he started writing some notes on something else. He had almost entirely tuned out the speech when suddenly, the speaker said the exact same word he was writing, just as he finished writing it.

And the word? “Simultaneous”.

At college I once walked into a TV lounge filled with guys watching a baseball game. Their team was behind, and I said, “Don’t worry, this guy will probably hit a home run.”

He did.

Everyone looked at me. The president of a fraternity insisted that I finish watching the game with them. Every seat in the room was filled, but he made some poor pledge stand up so I could sit down.

I don’t remember how the game ended, but I couldn’t call anything else the way they wanted.
