A Mini 0806. Haven’t even got it installed yet and I’m thinking about a road trip to break it in. I hope never to need the footage for any accident involving ME, but it’d be perversely enjoyable to be able to submit some evidence about somebody else’s accident up ahead.
And I want to be able to snip out still pics. Earlier this week I found myself driving into a gorgeous sunset where it wasn’t possible to stop and snap a pic.
And mostly I like that it has 258gb memory so even at the highest resolution I can record more than the any possible distance I could drive over a couple days.
Excellent choice. I have two Mini 0805 cameras installed in my wife’s car, one on the windshield and the other on the rear window. Both have 32GB cards.
Our other car has had a dash cam for about two years now. Since I mounted that camera I have captured amazing videos of… nothing.
I stuck mine behind the mirror and ran the wire up to the headliner, across to the post, and down to the fuse box. Find a fuse that’s only hot when the key is on, and use one of these to tap into it.
Not if you also turn off the GPS stamp. I suppose it could still be done by the visual record alone, but unless the camera is passing highway mile markers that can be read from the footage, it would entail going to the site (not so easy to do without a gps stamp) and doing physical measuring.
My cam is much smaller than any of those. It’s a cylinder mounted horizontally, about 2.5 inches long with a diameter of maybe 1 and 3/4 inches. More or less the size of an aspirin bottle. If you mount it between the window and the mirror, it’s completely invisible to the driver.
When I was at Sam’s Club about three weeks ago, I passed first a dash cam setup (first I’ve ever seen at a consumer level), and then a 3D printer (ditto).
I thought someone was pranking the stiffs.
I am surprised that it’s taken so long for the dashcam mania to reach the US. AFAICT, every car in Russia has one, as well as a lot of the Middle East.
I went to some local stores looking for them, including Walmart and Best Buy. Best Buy had one model on display. At Walmart, neither the Electronics or Automotives staff even knew what they are. Then I looked in 2 auto parts stores, and neither had them.
