I just got a verbal Job Offer!

Hooray! I have been unemployed since Feb 3rd. I received a verbal job offer an hour agao (I would have posted sooner but I had to go get some beer to celebrate) AND it is a 23% pay bump! (man lay me off more often! )

The written offer is supposed to come within 10 business days and once I pass the drug test (easy if they don’t test for beer) and the security clearance (I’m rather dull, can’t think of anything that would make me fail, except my association with all you louts  ) I will be starting on March 6th.

Hooray!

Great news - congrats!!!

Attaboy!

Oral is great but I never count it until the deal is full consummated.

Congrats! And as a bonus you got to say oral in your thread. Sweet.

So where’s our beer?

Congradulations Khadaji!

Drink a beer for me. I know how it feels to be unemployed. It blows. Real hard.
Glad its workin’ out.

good going. now, do the job, make yourself expendable, and send me a check.

what?

Congratulations! Can I rub your head for luck?

Congrats! Let us know when the written comes so we can celebrate again!

Awesome! What’s the job?

+1 - Congrats and fill us in!

I will be a lead software developer working for a team that deploys biometric security. (Fingerprint scan, iris scan, etc.)

It just occured to me: I had major sugery last summer and was on morphine for quite a while. I wonder if that will show up in my drug test and if it will be a problem…

I doubt it. You’ve got medical documentation, so it’s not like you were abusing it or anything.

That assumes it even shows up.

Robin

Congrats!

Oh, and congratulations!

There are a bunch of sites out there that talk about drug testing and testing clean, but I’m not clinically-trained and can’t tell whether they’re reliable. Based on what I read, it sounds like opiates aren’t detectable in urine test more than a few days after last use and aren’t detectable in hair after about 90 days. Hopefully Quadgop or one of our other resident medical types will stop by and enlighten us.

One of the sites that seemed credible (it was from a UK-based consulting firm but didn’t give specifics on how long substances stay in your system). It mentioned that other medications and foods containing poppy seeds can create false positives. I’ve heard about poppy seeds, but have never seen confirmation that it’s true.

On preview I see that Ms. Robyn has been by and mentioned that you would have documentation stating that the meds were prescribed. This might make a difference for some (maybe even most) employers, but for others the presence of opiates is all that matters. (I work in a field that deals with this in part…) Sounds like you’re out of the danger zone in any case, though.

This is lots longer than I intended…good luck, Khadaji!
