I put mine in by holding the lower lid down, placing the contact in (directly on my pupil;it doesn’t bother me) and then, keeping the lower lid pulled down, I take my top lid, pull it away from my eye and then place it on top of my eye… that way, it doesn’t fall out when I blink.
I want to get lasik, but I’m too young, and I need to get new prescriptions every year.
amarinth, do not for a minute think that with the doctor or tech sitting right there that they wouldn’t dare let you put them in inside out.
Mine did, and to top that off I left the office like that and rushed right up to the hospital to be with my sister in law while in labor and didn’t get away for a while to get them out. You are only supposed to wear them a few hours your first time out (which they didn’t tell me until I complained) and then gradually build up.
My second round with contacts is going much better. I did have issues with the solution at first, and after I soaked them for three days and changed brands we’re doing much better.
In the Lasik thread I mention that I had a hard time sticking my fingers in my eyes at first. I am over that now and with practice you will get better at getting yours in and out as well.
As for them getting stuck where they don’t belong, I remember my cousin doing that with hard lenses and having to go to the ER and have them removed.
Oh, and one last thing is I only trust daily wear. I remember leaving mine in and falling asleep in them and not having a good morning trying to get them out.
Oh, it’s really not so bad…You just feel really stupid when you realize what you’ve done. I’ll never be that dumb again.
But gallows fodder- you’ve just given me nightmares. Oh dear lord. Someone please tell me that can’t happen!! I’m actually frightened to put my contacts in tomorrow…
Okay according to numerous other websites and the Urban Legend (snopes) message board, that can’t happen…so I’m relieved, I think.
Another tip about putting them in backwards- I just leave them in the right way all the time and it’s okay. Of course you have to figure out which way is right, but once you do, just make sure you put them in the solution facing the right way. That’s what I do and I never have to look anymore.
Don’t worry, Zoggie – I’ve always managed to retrieve them from behind the eye. The first time it happened I was in a panic, though, let me tell you.
Lightly rubbing your fingertips across your closed eyes shouldn’t be a problem, but about 3 times I’ve gotten overzealous and done one of those sleepy-child knuckle-in-eye rubs, if you know what I mean. Those are what did it for me.
So amarinth if your eyes are itchy, remember to take your contacts out before you rub them.
