As some of you may know, my long time girlfriend and I broke up a few months ago. I moved to Phoenix and she, of course, stayed in North Carolina. She still calls me every once in awhile, but I haven’t talked to her in about two weeks and I probably haven’t thought about her in at least a week and a half.
A few minutes ago I sat down to read a book I just picked up from the library, Chuck Palahniuk’s Invisible Monsters. On the second page of the book I read this sentence:
“The suit, it’s this white Bob Mackie knock-off Brandy bought in Seattle…”
Now two things happened when I read the word Seattle. Firstly, I thought of my ex. That was where she grew up and she spoke of it rather exhaustively. The second thing, which happened at the exact same moment, was that my phone rang.
I stopped at the word Seattle and reached into my pocket for my phone. It was a 602 area code. “That’s my area code,” I thought “but I don’t recognize this number.”
I picked it up, and to my surprise, it was her ex boyfriend. No, not me, her ex from 5 years ago. He had also moved to Phoenix after they broke up. Recently he moved to New Jersey and got back in touch with her but he still has a Phoenix phone number.
Apparently when she meant to give him her phone number, she accidently gave him mine.
I realize this is completely pointless and bares absolutely no significance on anything whatsoever, but it was one hell of a coincidence, no?
