In terms of a “psychological autopsy,” the fact that they are older and just spent time with the family may help them to provide clues as everyone tries to piece together what the hell happened.
Anyway, what a horrible thing to have happen. I feel so sorry for the girls. My condolences to you as well, Shagnasty. Given that this isn’t the first time you’ve had a brush with this kind of thing, you must be feeling a bit weirded out and cursed, in addition to shocked and sad.

Not a whole lot. We did learn that the crime scene was a bloodbath of gunshot violence with multiple shots throughout the house and many injuries caused by them before death. The likely cause is still given as a murder-suicide. The motive is supposedly because the husband was having an affair and my friend threatened to divorce him as soon as they go back from Mexico. There is an alternate theory that the boyfriend of the person that he was having an affair with killed both of the couple as an act of revenge. The latter is not very likely in my view based on the known facts. The police are still taking the forensic case seriously and will not release an official statement until they are sure.

You figured out the people involved. There is no problem with that. However, there is a reason why I am avoiding actual names. It is because this board is highly Google searchable and often comes up as one of the top results. I don’t want their daughters to have to live with any inappropriate comments as a top result in the years to come. Links are fine but please do not list any specific details in this thread because it could hurt innocent people anytime in the future.
The speculation about what led up to it is all rumors on both sides and contradictory. I realized a few days ago that both of the people involved have true supporters (I am firmly on her side) and yet none of us truly understand what really went horribly wrong. Nobody really understands what happened which it is why it is so baffling. All I know is that the police are taking it especially seriously and want to find out why it happened because it is so unusual.

I am curious myself but I am not going to ask the family about it. Both daughters continue to express regret of the loss of both parents with equal love for both. They, and everyone else, has side-stepped the issue of what caused that tragedy and I support that because it doesn’t matter anymore. That chances are overwhelming that it was a murder-suicide. The only thing that still isn’t clear is the motive.
I am sure the results of the investigation will be made public in due time but that is not a primary concern right now. The most important thing is that their surviving kids and other family members can heal and learn to live with the loss. Their family members are doing an exceptionally good job of handling such a thing as gracefully as possible. I would like to think that I would also have such inner strength but I am not sure.
Such an awful story, and my heart goes out to you. The family and friends who seem to be a special breed of people who can focus on their love for those they lost rather than their anger - it seems your friend surrounded herself with those special people, and raised a couple of them too.
