I just ran a half-marathon.

Some of you may remember that last summer, I started the Couch to 5K running program, having absolutely no prior running experience whatsoever, and also being completely out of shape. I ran my first 5K in September and kept building up my training throughout the winter and spring. And, I just got back from my first half-marathon. 13.1 miles in the rain! I feel… well, I am in pain, actually. But psychologically I feel great. My time was 2:53, which meets my goal of coming in under 3:00.

Anyway, just thought I’d share.

Good for you! I started the couch to 5k program a few weeks ago.

Hooray! Congrats.

I am still running 2 miles 4 days a week. It is almost to the point where I don’t hate it…

That’s awesome! I’ve been working to get myself back in shape, but I haven’t been at it very long.

My friend wants me to run in the Sound to Narrows with her. I’m not quite ready for that, so maybe next summer.

I am so in awe of you, Superwoman.

I give you half-congratulations!

Good for you. Now get back out there and run the other half - no one likes a quitter!

just kidding

Was it the Flying Pig?

Awesome! I recently started running (mostly walking, but I’ll get there!) and love reading posts like this for motivation

Not the Flying Pig, although that totally sounds fun. I did the Capital City Half-Marathon here in Columbus.

I thought you were going to say you ran a half marathon and are now 13 miles from home. Come and get me.

Congrats. I started the couch to 5k at the same time as you last year and I’m running a half here at the end of June. Hell of a program isn’t it?

By the way you actual time is right at my goal time so I’m doubly envious of you.

Congratulations!

Make sure to go for a jog or a brisk walk tomorrow; it might sound nuts but it’ll really make your legs feel better over the next few days.

Good for you! I did my first half last summer and it was a little disatrous - I hurt my IT band a few weeks before the race and I totally had to walk/limp after 7 miles. But I finished!

Glad to hear YOUR outing was much more successful!

Good on you!

You’ve come a long way in less than a year.
Well done.

From that thread:

I think, my friend, you’ve proven that.

Awesome!!!

My brother and a couple of friends ran it as well. Not the best weather ever.

Very motivational! I just started C25K two weeks ago, so I’m very heartened to hear that. I don’t plan on running any races; I am looking at is as a way to get some time in with my dog that isn’t just walking.

I have always hated running. Growing up in a household of heavy smokers really made it hard, even as a child, for me to run. Then I was a smoker myself (until 5 years ago when I quit, thanks to Allen Carr’s book) and now I finally think I can handle it, with regards to my lungs. I plan on doing all the weeks twice, so I did week 1 twice so far and will be starting week 2 next week.

Awesome job! Congratulations!

Congratulations!!!

You inspire me, too. I signed up to ride the DALMAC - a 340 bicycle ride over 5 days this fall, from East Lansing MI to Mackinac City, MI. I’ve been out riding my 10-speed training. If the weather is good this weekend, I’m shooting for a 25 mile training ride.

Or maybe 2?
