I Just Spoke to a Con Artist on the Phone

We get those calls, and my standard routine is to put them on speaker phone, and then respond: “Oh, you have to call back and ask for Mr. Meoff. First name Jack.” Occasionally they actually do it.

I have never had to deal with bthese people before, but I do know what I would do:

Scammer: Could I have your photocopier model number please?

Me: Why?

Scammer: So we will know which toner you would like to order.

Me: Well, our copier doesn’t use toner. It’s the latest in technology. A Toshiba Mimeograph.
