I just watched Dr. Strangelove again

I just watched Dr. Stranglove again, for the first time in 20 years…

Then I got down on my knees and I thanked God that the Cold War was over before George W came into power. Just imagine how badly things would be going now if our opponents were more formidable than Al Queda or Iraq.

I think we could use a real war hero now like John Kerry for president. Someone that has actually fought in a war rather than draft dodgers like the last two presidents.

Uh, Drugs are bad, mmm’kay?
What is the debate? Isn’t this a Pit or CS thread?

You want debate? Okay, North Korea has WMD’s, they also have a system for delivery, and they are making no effort to hide it. What if George W. had addressed the “imminent threat” to South Korea or say, our other ally, Japan? This is a real threat but there is little oil in the far east and North Korea is better prepared for an attack from the USA. Our sitting president likes to swing his dick and soldiers die.

Nuclear annihilation was a real “imminent threat”. One of the countries involved happened to go bankrupt in the arms race. Suppose one of the leaders during the cold war had wanted to swing his dick.

You don’t need the backing of a country to do what was done on 9/11. A dozen or two disguntled Vietnam veterans could probably organize and do the same thing, probably better. You can’t stop the threat of terrorism by bombing a couple of third world nations into submission. It has been a show of force at a great cost of resources and lives with little real meaning.

Its where my name comes from btw. Or my username at least

There will be no fighting in the War Room!

Yee-Haa!

That’s your debate? Let’s see:

NK is very dangerous. Check
It would be a mistate to attach NK. Check
GWB did not initiate an atack against NK. Check

Since your “what if” did not happen, what is your argument? That GWB would have attacked a country that was 100x more powerful than NK? Sorry, you’ve haven’t elevated this thread about your initial rant.

The stupidity of this thread is corrupting my precious bodily fluids.

And it corrupted my spelling! Let’s try it again:

“but he’ll see the big board!”
actually, when watching some old Connery James Bond (or Connery’s Meteor, which was on the other day) I kinda yearn for them good old cold war days. a definite enemy, almost equally matched, the yin to our yang. yes sir. this al quaeda business ain’t for me.

"Strangelove, that’s not a kraut name… What kind of a name is that?
His original name was Merkwurdigliebe, he changed it when he came to America

Hmm… Kraut by another name…"
I love that line. Okay I know you mean well John Mace, but I think you are in the wrong thread, buddy. Unless you want to talk about purity of essence.

" I do not avoid women, Mandrake, but I do deny them my essence."
That’s the best line of the whole flick

Okay, John Mace, do you deny that a couple of disgruntled Vietnam vets couldn’t get together, organise and train a dozen or so men, and do a stunt similar to that of 9/11, maybe better. And the Department of Homeland Security could do nothing about it. That GWB taking charge and attacking a lessor country unprovoked was something more than swinging his dick.

Please guys go to the proper thread

They probably could. So what? That’s not a debate either.

And that is different from your OP rant how?

WMD are important but it’s the fluoridation of water that really is scary.

What?

Well, when it comes to enemies, the present bunch do lack charisma. Our old-timey enemies had a sort of sinister, thuggish, classiness. Their military wore cool uniforms and you had to respect that they really could annihilate us, just as we could annihilate them. The lot that Bush seems so focused on seem like little more than ill-clad brigands by comparison.
