I just watched "Star Trek Beyond"!

Better than I thought it would be until about 2/3rds of the way in and then all these gigantic weird plot holes developed and just got bigger and more incomprehensible as the movie progressed. The movie was nicely done effects wise but the utterly nonsensical plot kind of messed it up a bit in the end.

You’d have thought that on the first read someone would have said “WTF is this mess?” and taken a scalpel to the script.

Did you see it on Access CBS?

[Uh oh wrong Trek thread, this one can stay I guess…]

I’ve only seen the battle scenes on Youtube…you can’t make Photon Torpedoes detonate remotely? Seems that would have been handy. Useless weapon.

The average TOS show had more script rigor than this 150 million dollar movie, but the real issue was the motivation of the bad guy in doing the things he had done. The rationale was so weak and nonsensical relative to the epic destruction being waged all you could do is stare at the screen.

Not to mention they’ve just completely ignored all the plot convenience stuff from Into Darkness like transwarp beaming, effectively rendering all starships obsolete (suddenly they can’t even beam people out of a crater?!), and the whole “hey, we discovered the cure for death!” thing.

I struggled to get through Star Trek Into Darkness. It wasn’t bad but it was pretty boring.

Into darkness was the worst of the three modern movies. I really liked Beyond. As I wrote in the original thread on it, it felt like a huge budget episode of the old show.
