I juts had a nice plate of fish & chips

Also, use malt vinegar instead of tartar sauce.

Wow, Kuwait do good F&C

Ah, but have you tried it… ?

Most UK chippies have several pots of curry sauce, gravy, mushy peas, beans. How about the rest of the world ?

Surgeon fish.

By me.

That looks all sorts of wrong.

Full disclosure: as a youth I worked in a chippie in the UK.

That looks like a great place to me

Well, guess what? The US is not the UK. Christs sake, if I went to England and did nothing but bitch about how everything was different than here, I’d be castigated as an ugly, stupid American. But apparently it’s A-OK for you to sit there and screech about how everything we do is wrong.

Is that a response to me? If so, fer fucks sake, you need to reign in your jerky knee.

No, the post above yours.

Ah, I’m glad. Honestly, that looks like a good place in a neighborhood that has seen better days, and there’s a lot of that about

Doesn’t matter. amanset said it’s all wrong so I can no longer enjoy going there.

I ordered fish and chips during a layover in O’Hare, and they could not find malt vinegar to give me.

That’s all, but it’s saying a helluvalot.

Well I went el chippo yesterday - small fish and chips, open with curry sauce. Eat it in the street watching the junkies and losers go by.
A mind boggling £2.95, and cooked perfectly too.

Now this shop had 6 pots. I can guarantee the gravy, curry, beans and peas. I think one was for chilli con carne, but the sixth… don’t know…

Wow, chill the fuck out.

I think you’ll find people from all countries have a tendency to get a bit precious about their local foodstuffs and how other cultures mess them up. I have a running joke with a friend from Philadelphia, whenever I see a ‘cheesesteak’ somewhere I send him a picture and wait for about five detailed messages about everything that is wrong about it.

Nice to know I have so much control over your life.

For the record, a lot of chippies don’t use malt vinegar, which is why added vinegar at home always tastes a bit weird. Many think it is due to the vinegar being watered down, but the reality is that it is a different substance.

They offer to put it on for you here.
This added customer service is something of a recent innovation, well, over the last ten years or so. Previously it was customary to leave it entirely to the customer.

I always turn this down because I don’t want to have to micro-manage the sprinkling and scattering, and then get the hump when it still goes wrong.

Oh I am used to it being done by the guy behind the counter. I’m more thinking the times when someone else is buying and doesn’t get it put on as ‘they weren’t sure’, so you put it on at home and it just doesn’t feel right.
