I went to a cheap, chain-style hair salon and got my hair cut. I know better than this-with my curls, I have to have a good stylist that knows how to cut curls, and understands exactly what I want. Why did I do this to myself? My hair was too long, looking shaggy, it was hot on my neck, and I didn’t feel like driving the 20 miles to my regular stylist, plus there were no appointments available…and I didn’t have the $40 they charge…so I paid $12, and ended up with hair that only comes down, when wet, to the bottoms of my ears. This means that as the curls kick in, I look like Little Orphan Annie. Seriously. Especially since I have red hair. On top of that I look about 15 with my hair this short.
I know, I know, it’s my own fault…I do know better. Dang… I know it will grow…hopefully quickly. And it is just hair… I will survive. sigh
I really thought I was clear on what I wanted, but maybe I’m so used to my regular guy that I didn’t make myself clear.
I feel your pain. As a fellow curly redhead, I too have suffered the horror that is a crappy hair stylist. And is it just me, or does a bad haircut look worse on a redhead than any other person? Maybe it just feels that way.
Maybe you could find some cute scarves to wear for a bit? I’ve notice thay seem to be coming back in fashion…

Yeah, yeah. Like we’ve never heard that one…
Ooh, I went to one of those cheapo places once, told the stylist what I wanted, she tried to hand me a magazine and told me to show her what I wanted.
I didn’t want some trendy-ass style that only looks good on a skinny waif model. I wanted something that required a minimum of fussing, that wouldn’t fall in my face when I was trying to deal a jammed up craps game.
Promises, promises! Actually, I was referring to the comedian Carrot Top. He has a hair style that seems to be like what Lsura was describing. I wasn’t calling her Carrot Top. Fire Frizz or Orange Wedge maybe, but not Carrot Top.
I feel I must state that I have nothing against redheads. Actually, I like 'em. Many of them have freckles, and I like that, too.
(My first, and hopefully last, triple-smiley post.)
Growing up, my mother took me to the lady who lived across the street to cut my hair. Until I was in my mid-teens, I thought you were supposed to go home, re-wash your hair, and try to create some sort of style out of what the hairdresser had given you.
Places like Supercuts are no different in my experience. But I resisted going to a good hairstylist for a long time, preferring the look of long, all one length hair. But I now drive 40 minutes to the first and only person who ever gave me a good cut and style, and have done so for 4 years now.
I had an appointment a couple weeks ago to get my hair cut and the highlights touched up but had to cancel. I went, instead, to my local Family Haircutters shop and paid $13 for a trim instead of $110 for the highlights and haircut from my regular stylist. The girl did a good job I guess but she didn’t do the layers the way I like them so my hair lays kind of funny. And now my brown roots are showing under my blond highlights and I look kind of silly. Oh well, maybe next month I can afford the whole hair treatment and look normal again!
Yes ma’am. My grandma used to cut my bangs when I was little (hey, shuddup, it was the 70’s) and she could never get them even, so she’d keep cutting and cutting and cutting until I was left with this fringe (shudder) Mine’s not curly tho and I think it looks better long. Plus, I’m really cheap! pointedly not thinking about the '80’s spiral perm debacle
yeah, leave the bangs crooked rather than too short. There’s a girl in my daughter’s kindergarten class for whom I feel terribly sorry- bangs up to her hairline. My daughter has pulled off crooked hair better than that- kids don’t brush their hair anyway, do they?
I bought some Endura Gel by Kenra, I think. That stuff is strong- you could do anything with that to disguise the scalping. I had the same cut when I was a freshman in college. Once.
