I was “on a break” this weekend and missed some interesting shit, looks like. Updike, I am probably not going to believe anything you ever say again (unless backed up by shitloads of verifiable cites). Better yet, I’m going to act as if you don’t exist. It’s OK to be wrong or mistaken, it’s OK to stick to a false idea and argue for it. But to pull a big ass lie out of your ass for no reason is a whole nother thing. You fucked up big time.

I find it amusing that Updike’s plans in this thread seemed to be to apologise to anyone and everyone for anything, whilst of course not really meaning it. That plan didn’t last long.

I too hope he’s allowed to stay. I don’t think there’s any rule against being a liar, even if he did choose to lie and gain advantage from a tragedy. Sure he’s a jerk, but plenty of people are jerks in the Pit (albeit not to this level of jerkishness). Of course, I suspect that if he is allowed to stay, and the mods present him with that option, he’ll throw a hissy fit and walk off on his own, in order to preserve his [del]dignity[/del] [del]honour[/del] ego.

Only problem, E-Sabbath, after this vile display, I no longer consider him a person. Co-opting the tragedy that took place in New York for his personal gain is beyond reprehensible.

There are conservatives on this board who have supported him in the past, neither one of you, but others who are not making their presence known on this thread. Search for old threads where Updike is involved and you’ll see who I mean. Those are the people who would have supported him if his dead-parent scheme wound up working. But like I said, it’s a hunch, I can’t prove it.

If your “hunch” is that people would have said, “You have to be lying, I don’t believe it”, well, you’re too late-even before tomndebb came up with proof several people, even well-known conservatives, called bullshit.
