I like inline pictures but

I think the ability to include pictures in posts via the “one box” feature is great, but it needs to be respected. I think we should be moderating (both officially and by peer pressure) posts that have a picture and no other content. For example: What are some dog whistles of the American left? - #6 by snfaulkner

I worry that if the feature gets abused then a vocal minority will successfully get TPTB to disable it completely.

What are your thoughts?

I’m a big fan of inline pictures, but I agree, especially in the case of memes. This isn’t that kind of board, and it’s not going to go well.

To clarify: inline pictures are good, but meme responses are not, especially when there’s no accompanying content.

I agree. I saw that the other day and immediately felt like I was on any other random board. I’d have no problem if it was constrained to one/some forum(s) or even if there was a way for the OP to allow them when starting a thread, but in general, I’m not a fan.
FWIW, I have no issue with links to pictures, but seeing them inline kinda jars me out of the thread (kinda).

Even worse, however, is anything animated (including signatures). Maybe it’s my ADD, but I can’t read something when there’s video/animation on the screen.

See, I like having them inline, but I think they should be part of the content, not all of the content.

applauds Yeah I agree

To be fair, I posted that before I realized it would force everyone to see it. I’m absolutely ok with just posting a link to such inanity and those who wish to can follow it.

I didn’t mean for this thread to be a criticism of @snfaulkner, it’s a new board with new features and we are all feeling our way around.

No worries. I support your concerns.

Ditto.

I think they can be very useful in GD, CS, IMHO, and MPSIMS. (Links are good, of course, but I’m not likely to click the link no matter how interesting I think it might be.)

This is what I think as well. Maybe something along the lines of (I just gotten a new kitten, her is a picture it).
