I like writing in cursive, but sometimes my brain can't keep up!

I have quite decent cursive handwriting (and a few different styles depending on my mood), thanks to 13 years of Catholic schools. * Yet I still print most of the time. Why is this?

Because it seems that my brain trips up with the faster cursive method. If I write notes in cursive, it’s like my hand gets into the habit of swooshing around and starts writing faster than my brain is thinking. Then I end up with misspellings or just plain extra letters in words! It doesn’t help that my writing has a lot of garlands in it (garlands are basically the shape you make in the middle of a cursive w, or if you made a bunch of connected 'i’s), so once my hand gets into the swoosh-swoosh-swoosh pattern, it’s hard to stop!

Sheesh. It really makes one feel silly (and hoping that no one is watching as you write).

*[sub]That’s including kindergarten, to fend off all you wise-acres.[/sub]

When handwriting my name on things I find I most often get messed up in the n’s… they’ll sometimes become m’s and the i and r get mucked around.

That’s why I prefer to print.

My cursive writing is completely unintelligible. My printing is only somewhat less so.

Your typing ain’t so hot either.

Kidding!
