On Sunday night friend and co-worker went to work…and never made it to 1am. Ben Lyons died of multiple sharp AND blunt force injuries.
Why the fuck should an 83 year old man have to put on a uniform and work through the night just to put food on the table?
Why the fuck would a company send an unarmed 83 year old man to a dimly lit parking lot in the middle of the night to stop thieves from stealing truck parts-did they think it was being done by third graders?
I’m sorry for your loss and that of Mr. Lyons family, Czarcasm. I wish I had better words to make some sense out of this needless tragedy, but all I can offer is sympathy for your pain and anguish.
I’m so sorry to hear about such a horrible crime and death for your friend Czarcasm.
Serious question though, do you folk not have an ‘Aged Pension’ or similar for people who don’t have other retirement funds? IOW, how come Ben was still working at an age when he should have been sitting in front of the telly and dozing with his warm slippers on?
Think about how many young people right now are going to be in that scenario because their predecessors took away all the health benefits and pensions plans so that the wealthy could get wealthier.
I’ve often joked that my retirement plan is going to be walking into the forest on a backpacking trip and never coming out. I don’t expect to have much in the way of retirement funds and I don’t want to be a burden to my kids who may have it even worse than I do.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Czarcasm. It is a senseless tragedy on so many levels.
I am upset, but I am also very pissed off. What other civilized country on earth makes those over 80 work a full-time job just to survive?
What other civilized country would let someone over 80 work in such a dangerous situation in the middle of the night, unarmed?
I’d make a statement about the politics and those behind them that have led to this situation, but this is not the place for it. Suffice it to say that Mr. Lyons should not have had to been in such a situation or had to risk his life at any age for some truck parts.
Sorry about the loss of your friend Czarcasm. Life is too horrible at times to make any sense out of it. Getting pissed off does help to deal with it, but it’s cold comfort.
I am so sorry and I understand your feelings of sadness and anger. It’s just freaking wrong and I hope you and your friend’s family can eventually find some peace. Take care.
