I am about to return home to Maryland from Philadelphia, in my car.
Unfortunately, I cannot find my drivers license anywhere…I took it out of my wallet for some reason, and now I have no clue where it is.
I also do not have a registration card on my person, as I had to get a replacement and it was mailed to home address. So it is sitting in Maryland waiting for me.
The DMV sent us a faulty sticker, and when we took it off the registration thingy, it ripped into a ten different pieces. I pasted it back together and kept this in a bag in my car in the event I got pulled over for it. It took me awhile to orde ra new one because I am at school in a different state.
Somehow a cop did see my expired sticker and I got pulled over. He suggested taping it onto the back of my car until I could get a new one. So I did, but it looks pretty sketchy…a beat up looking sticker surrouned by electrical tape.
I dont look too sketchy when Im driving, my car is an older bmw.
Is there anyway for me to get home without the chance of being arrested? Please help, Im freaking out.
I’ve been pulled over without my license on me before and didn’t have a problem. Just tell the cop you lost it and haven’t had time to get a new one. If you know your license number so they can look it up, that helps. The cop should be able to check the registration using your plates, too (I think). They aren’t going to arrest you for these minor things, and it’s pretty unlikely you will get pulled over anyway.
Also, electrical tape? Why not something clear and less obvious?
I can not speak with authority about the laws in Maryland or Pennsylvania. In NJ not having your credentials on you are minor offenses. The state decided it needed more money so it raised the fine on that charge but in no way would you be arrested. Do you have another form of ID? Any officer can look up your registration and driver’s licence and see that it is valid. As long as the car is properly registered, you are not suspended and the car has insurance you should be fine. Of course I am only speaking for NJ. In Maryland it may be a hanging offense.
