Well, after wanting one of these things for a little while, just for web browsing and small office type work while I watch TV, I picked up the new 10" Acer Aspire One (The 10" model I guess was just released in Feb). VERY nice little netbook. Anyway, I’m loving this thing. Nice bright, clear screen. Keyboard isn’t too small to type on, it seems pretty quick, and the battery lasts FOREVER. I’ve been using it on battery only for about 4.5 hours dating back to yesterday, and just now, the battery is showing 51% remaining (and estimating 4 hours 15 minutes left). I can see why these little cheap buggers have taken off. It’s nice to have a laptop this tiny that can really run most everything except games.
I just ordered an Asus Eee 904HA and can’t wait until it gets here. I thought about getting one of the 10" models but the budget’s a bit tight and I couldn’t really justify spending the extra money.
I probably should have looked around a bit first before I bought 3 Dell Mini-9’s. Sounds like the Asus is a better machine, but the Dell does what we need so I guess I don’t have much to complain about.
What options does it have for communications, internal wifi and does it have a usb port or an pmcia slot so you can stick a cell stick or card ?
Declan
From my pre-purchase research, just about every netbook has internal wifi, an ethernet port, 2-3 USB ports, and a card reader. They don’t have any sort of optical drive, but a lot of them have a built-in webcam.
I bought my Eee PC901 with XP right after they came out. I really like it, but I kinda wish I’d waited till the 10" screens came out. (I also paid too much for it, compared to what the netbooks are going for now.)
But I’m sold on the little computers. Now I want a convertible tablet-style, where the screen rotates. That would work better for reading ebooks.
