I went to Hersheypark yesterday and had a blast. That Storm Runner is a rush. Looking at my schedule, I’ll probably be looking for something to do next Monday while in the DC area. The two parks I’m seeing are King’s Dominion and Six Flags America. I’ll go on anything and the more coasters the better. I don’t know the Virginia/Maryland area all that well, but I could probably figure anything out with a good map. Which has the better coasters overall?
Six Flags is AWESOME, so you should definally go there. Be sure to go on Batman, Superman, and Raging Bull. Sooooo much fun.
Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio (an hour west of Cleveland). I personally can’t ride the coasters, but my brother-in-law is in town and itching to get there this week…great rides.
Canada’s Wonderland just north of Toronto might well be the best rollercoaster park on the continent, if not in the world. Huge variety.
I highly recommend the Vortex, a simple but wonderfully designed coaster. The Mighty Canadian Minebuster is fantastic, Top Gun is very good, and I’m fond of The Fly. (The rides shown on the Web site aren’t all of them. There’s a lot of coasters there.)
General admission can be had online for $38 Canadian (roughly $28 US.) Or get in touch with me, I can get cheap tickets through my workplace.
Yes, simply wonderful. I havent been in the past few years so I missed the really cool recent ones. It has the most roller coasters in one park out of the entire world.
Try www.kennywood.com/ . Phantom’s Revenge is just FUN and same goes for the Thunderbolt and Jack Rabbit. I have been to a couple of places and I think Phantom’s Revenge (the original was better but I digress) is quite possibly the funnest so far. It has quite a huge drop on it and goes really fast for a coaster. Also, Busch Gardens was alright. Fun stuff but nothing of earth shattering importance.
Two websites you might find interesting:
The Ultimate Coaster
Roller Coaster Database
Both allow you to search by state, and both contain lots of great information about the parks and the coasters.

I used to HATE roller coasters. But my wife got me hooked. Heh. Now she SCUBA dives so it works both ways.
As to the OP, Hershey Park was a real surprise for us. We happend to be in the area about a month ago with some time to kill.
Clean park, and somehow, no lines for the coasters. I think they have 7.
The Storm runner is a real trip.
I second Cedar Point. If you’re a coaster freak I’d recommend staying away from Kennywood. The only good coaster there, IMO, is the Steel Phantom/Phantom’s Revenge (and I haven’t been there since they modified/renamed it). Kennywood strikes me as more of a kiddie park. But CP is worth the 40 or so dollars to get in. Just get there when the gates open so you can be at the front of the line an hour later when the rides open, and stay till they kick you out. If you’re lucky you should be able to ride all the good coasters at least twice, and every coaster at least once.
Next up, Vincennes, Indiana, and the world’s only looping backyard rollercoaster, The Blue Flash.
The owner will let you ride it if you contact him ahead of time (contact information on the website).
Make for an interesting addition to your “coaster count”.
Thanks for all the other suggestions so far, and I’ll keep them in mind, but it’d be helpful if someone could give me an idea between King’s Dominion and Six Flags America. I’m definitely leaning towards King’s Dominion, even though it’s probably an hour longer drive.
I had read about The Blue Flash here exactly three days before I saw it in person. My brother was flabbergasted that I knew what it was.
I also second Cedar Point. If you say you love coasters, but haven’t been to the Point, then you don’t *really * love coasters.
