I’m having brain surgery

It is. One of the Neuro guys dropped by, looked at my auger plate as it’s called and didn’t like the way it looked. He already reserved an operating room just in case and they hauled me down there and did the deed while I was under general. I was given a Norco and recovery and that helped quite a lot because it was really really hurting afterwards this evening it’s really really hurting again and I can’t have a Norco for another 25 minutes. Norco is pretty dangerous so I need to try to not take it tomorrow but I really need the pain relief today

Take the pain meds they’ll give you. You ain’t gotta worry about it. They’ll stop giving it soon enough, believe me.

Feel better sooner. Stay down til you’re steady on your feet.
Don’t fall outta the bed.

I got the PICC Installed into my arm this afternoon. I’m told around the hospital it will not make a lick of difference in terms of my mobility during absorption of intravenous antibiotics but it may make a difference in the skilled nursing facility whenever I get there. I think they made me more cyborg like

I’m told I’ll be taking infusions of antibiotic Drugs 15 hours a day indefinitely

Holy shit. I hope that’s just doctor speak for “it’ll be a while, and we don’t know how long”.

Presumably days/weeks indefinitely, not months/years.

Either this is your superhero origin story, or it’s the origin story of some unnamed person who will defeat you when you start running amuck. Fingers crossed it’s the first.

You might consider asking one of your doctors if starting on something like probiotics could be helpful. Extended use of antibiotics can cause C. diff, and it doesn’t sound like you need any more problems added to your plate.

Hope you are feeling better.

So right after the Previous events
– my nurse figured out a way to get the four hour infusion to run in one which cut my five hours down to two hours a day.
-The infectious disease people stopped by and said they can cut out that drug entirely which cuts it down to one hour a day. (The culture has started to give information finally.) In which case they are making noises about putting me into a skilled nursing facility or a nursing home (which may be the same thing) they just don’t know when such a thing might happen.

  • I’ve collected information on which facilities to go to and especially one facility to definitely definitely not go to.

iswydt

Choose a rehab place other than a nursing “home”. If you can.

ETA- indefinitely can mean many things. Don’t despair fellow “-Borg”

I’m now in the rehab place, doing about three hours of infusions a day to protect my fragile brain, per instructions of my neurologist. I’m not gonna see her until a week from Friday. My initial impression of the skilled nursing facility was very poor because they didn’t have the drugs I needed to sleep so I was up all night first night. I’m told they will have the right stuff tonight, 200 mg of Seroquel which will let me sleep like a baby.

After two weeks in a regular hospital and then a sleepless night in what I felt was a shit hole at the time, I actually just walked out the front door, fuckit, and took a walk around the neighborhood. In retrospect I shouldn’t have, the staff kind of freaked and my son is very pissed at me but I just had to walk away for just a few minutes.

I’m feeling better about this place. The food sucks intensely but it’s not such a bad place to hang out at not that they can give me proper medication’s and I can sleep

Dude, you are a rebel.

Yeah, they don’t like they have to look for you. I’m sure they have an outdoor area they deem safe and secure… probably cameras to watch. Ask.
Tell them if you’re going.

Get son to bring food you like occasionally. If approved beforehand.

It feels like a jail, I know. But remember you just had brain surgery and still have an infection of some sort.

Brains be weird. And, do weird shit to you. Stay down as much as possible.

Keep us posted.

Don’t forget that unless you’re on some sort of controlled diet, the SNF (probably) isn’t going to mind you getting DoorDash or whoever to bring you at least one meal to your liking per day. Dollars permitting of course.

did they let you know if they found one ? :D&R:
