… and while it is great, what I’m looking for more is a bright spotlight with a tight, focused beam. That NEBO 12000 is a bright light but it puts out a broad beam.
Thanks, I am checking those out. In the meantime I’ve liked using small flashlights from Olight, especially these two. The Baton 4 is nice and small and easy for EDC in my pocket.
That’s interesting. For my usual use (illuminating the path I am walking on) I look for a light with a diffuse beam, so I can see a wider area and don’t have a totally blind spot at the edge of the bright light. I also use laser pointers as, well, pointers, and want an extremely tight beam. But I’ve never had use for “very narrow and bright” that’s les tight than a laser pointer.
If you are looking to point, I recommend you search for “laser pointer”, not “flashlight”. Some of them point impressively far.
Otherwise, I can’t help you. Except to say that for my use, a headlamp is SO much better than anything handheld that I am willing to sacrifice some performance to get my light stuck to my forehead.
Thanks, but I already have a laser pointer and that’s not what I am looking for. I actually have a star pointer, a powerful laser. It works great for pointing at stars.
My needs are different from yours. In my OP I have a link to a light like yours. It works really well.
For the spotlight, one scenario I want to support is that I’m on a long road trip, far from home. I’m staying the night at a motel and I’m parked near my room. In the middle of the night I want to illuminate my car from inside my room, to check on it. So, a spotlight is better than a broad beam light. And a headlamp will not help me.
So I am looking for a powerful, rechargeable, handheld spotlight.
Interesting. It’s similar to the Olight Baton 4 Powerful EDC Flashlight 1300 Lumens that I have, and it easily fits in my pocket. And I’m very happy with it. But, it’s pricier than yours so you may have the better deal.
Here’s a list of top-rated thrower flashlights at different size and price points. 1lumen is a respected review site in the flashlight community.
Noctigon K1 looks good. It’s a single-cell light that throws nearly a mile. USB-C charging.
FWIW, pretty much every powerful light drops to a lower setting after a minute or two. That’s never been an issue for me; I see what’s going on and then turn down the beam. If I need another look I can bump the power back up to turbo,
Torque Test Channel on YouTube does reviews on flashlights occasionally, and is very thorough.
While some flashlights are rechargeable, the best use standard rechargeable cells like 18650 and 21700 or larger, so you can have more than one.
I’ve got a couple of small ones that will throw a ton of light a good distance… I’ll try to find the link from where I got them. I insisted on a simple on-off switch as I didn’t want to cycle through 5 modes each time I use it.
You can use AAA rechargeable with the included adapter or you can buy some 18650 cells and a charger and still be over $100 under budget. I’ve had mine for years, they have a wide and narrow beam mode.
