Thanks to Q the M, whose reply was better than mine would have been. I haven’t been hung over today, thanks to a prudent decision to stop drinking after the first post-Match party and copious amounts of Gatorade before falling asleep. I have, however, enjoyed a day of much-needed sleep, as I’ve been pretty nervous about the whole thing.
Why Greensboro or Wilmington? I had a lot of NC schools on my list because I wanted to do a community-based residency (as opposed to a university-based one), and NC has a great system of community residencies affiliated with UNC-Chapel Hill, so you get the best of both worlds.
Greensboro won out because of the great people, the great hospital, a really nice call schedule (q4 on ward months, with a night float taking over at 9 PM except on weekends), and lots of other little extras that put it miles ahead of the rest. Wilmington was #2 despite the program and the hospital being merely adequate, because it’s such a neat little town. CMC in Charlotte was #4–it was a great program, but I didn’t care for Charlotte at all. (I don’t think I got an accurate picture, but still.)
In the end, though, I think it’s the barbecue with hush puppies that did it. It’s just a shame I’m coming down too late to vote against Jesse Helms.
