I may be getting a pet rabbit......

Well, if you’ve read Watership Down, you have a treasure trove of rabbit names. (And if you haven’t, you should.)

I’ve never had a rabbit, but my sister’s family has had two. My niece wanted to name the first one “Rose Dusk”, but when she saw it she said, “I want to name her Cuddly.” Years later, when they got a second one, my niece named it “Fluffy.”

“Another hard-hitting bunny name,” said my brother-in-law.

So awesome to see knowledgeable rabbit people on SDMB!

Regarding a home for the bunnies - rabbits generally love to chew on cords of any kind. This is not only hazardous (or deadly) for your rabbit, it is also expensive. Consider for unsupervised-time housing (when you’re sleeping/working) a large “small animal playpen” (available via pet stores or Amazon) or two, latched together to make a large area for your rabbits to be safe when you are not around. I open up the playpen to let them run as well as block them out of the next room, and have a variety of methods to block off cords/the area behind the TV/etc.

Rabbits should be eating a heavily hay-based diet, with some fresh dark green lettuce supplementing (check rabbit.org for more info) for extra nutrition. Pellets can be fattening, and too many can cause problems with stools, fur matting on the rear, etc.

Bunnies aren’t just cute like everybody supposes
They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses
And what’s with all the carrots?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Bunnies, bunnies, it must be bunnies!

(or maybe midgets)

My bunnies all hated carrots. Watching them eat lettuce is hilarious though!
Our first bunny (Juno) was a boy. He was supposed to be a girl according to the people we got him from and two different vets. Icarus and Daedalus were supposed to be boys. They were not.
Some people will tell you that spraying bitter apple will keep them from eating your wires and cords. I have 5 dead computer keyboards that say this is not always the case. Some freaky little wabbits actually like the stuff.
I’m a fan of the Redwall series so I’d pick a name of one of the Long Patrol hares. My favorite is Tammo.
