Dictionary.com,
I haven’t been able to access you several days.
Did I do something wrong?
Why have you forsaken me?
I miss you! Please come back!

Use www.m-w.com instead. It’s mo’ bettah anyway.
Now that’s just eerie. Today I needed a dictionary and I was on the computer. Too lazy to get up and get the book, I type the first thing that pops into my head: dictionary.com. It doesn’t work. I’ve never ever used that site before, nor plan to in the future. I never even HEARD of it before, even though I was sure it existed. Flash forward, about two hours. I see this thread and near pee my pants.
I was a big dictionary.com fan too. I hope it comes back. =(
Until then, m-w.com will have to suffice.
Hehe. M-w.com was superior all along. And now all those who disagreed will have to conform.
I did a google search, and instead of www.dictionary.com, the first one it pulled up was www.yourdictionary.com.
Doesn’t look the same as dictionary.com, but seems to do the same thing. Also has a thesaurus and different languages dictionary, as well.
I am guessing this might have taken its place.
May dictionary.com RIP, I foresaw it’s demise but prayed I was wrong.
I use www.britannica.com myself.
Uh, JohnT? The “Collegiate” dictionary at the Britannica site is the Merriam-Webster online dictionary–more frequently reached through www.m-w.com.
I just went there and it’s back up!
www.onelook.com for all your dictionary needs.
Now it’s down again.
This’ll mean googlewhacking needs a new official arbiter of whether a word exists.
m-w.com may be superior in terms of content, but how can you beat the ease of typing in dictionary.com? I always liked the “you’re grabbing the virtual dictionary off the shelf” analogy, there.
Now it’s up again. Those crazy dictionaryers at dictionary.com are playing fast and loose with y’all!
I have been able to access dictionary.com all day… but yesterday it was down for me.
i used it fine today. neener neener neener!!!
hannahw, the word would be “Lexicographers”.
but yes, they be CRAZY!
…googlewhacking just isn’t the same without the ability to (effortlessly) look up the meanings of all those new words…
