I Miss Ugly People on TV

What about all three of the L&O incarnations? Or the CSIs?

While I find Vincent D’Onofrio, Eric Bogosian and Jeff Goldblum attractive, there are way more folks who would disagree with me.

While the CSIs themselves are, for the most part (COFFNOTJorjaFoxCOFF) attractive, their guest stars haven’t been, Vince Vieluf, Dayton Callie and Kim Coates for example.

The only L&O I watch is SVU, and it’s stocked with hotties. I mean, Mariska Hargitay is the daughter of Jayne Mansfield and a former Mr. Universe! And I don’t think I have a friend who is attracted to men who doesn’t want to jump Christopher Meloni’s bones.

Even then, many of the funny (or normal) looking people have had enough work done on their teeth to put a dentist’s kids through college.

Point taken. Guess I should have qualified by saying that *SVU *is the only one I don’t watch.

That’s my complaint. Everybody on TV has perfect teeth that are blue-white.

An old thread about this:

With regard to the characters rather than the actresses, I can understand Pam being considered much more attractive than most of the others because Jan, Kelly, and Angela are all kind of psycho.

But on aside from Hargitay and Meloni, it’s not exactly a beauty pageant over at SVU. Ice T and Richard Belzer definitely qualify as “funny looking”, and Dann Florek is just average as far as I’m concerned.

I certainly agree with you there.

As real life people, the woman who plays Jan is a stunner, and so is the actress who plays Karen, (blanking on her name) who is apparently Quincy Jones’ daughter.

As characters, Jan, Angela and Kelly are deeply unlikable.

Maybe some of my “meh” about the woman who plays Pam (again not sure of her name) comes from the couple of times I have seen her on Conan, Leno etc. where my perception is that she is quite full of herself, and seems to belive all of her newfound hype.

I find her reasonably attractive, but certainly she seems to garner a lot of attention despite being rather average, and again, because she seems a bit concieted in real life, it dosent help either.

(Of course I realise that she is not at home losing sleep worring about my opinion of her)

Attractive is such a subjective thing. I think Holly is “average” at best. Also, the new receptionist is very attractive?!?!? When they first showed her I recoiled and said “Ew!” out loud.

Average looking people (IMHO):
Jennifer Carpenter from Dexter
Jason Segel from How I Met Your Mother
Jim Parsons from Big Bang Theory
most people on the show 24
David Caruso of CSI Miami
Sandra Oh from Grey’s Anatomy
Donald Trumpon any show he sticks his mug on

Did you ever see Quarantine? She plays the female lead and her hotness is a plot point before the zombies show up.

Although you’re right, in Dexter, she looks rather average. But in Quarantine, she was totally believable as the hot girl.

Yep, saw it. I just don’t see her that way. That nose (hey, I have a big nose so I can say it!) and those eyes that are so far apart. I just don’t get it. Plus, she married Dexter! He’s cute!

Check out The Unusuals before they pull it.

I recall Fred Sanford saying about Esther (or another relative) I could dip her face in batter and make some gorilla cookies. What about Mr Belvedere, everyone was SO ugly on that show. But they all did the comedy quite well.

Weird. I’ve always gotten the impression that Jenna Fischer was one of the most level-headed, humble, and just plain nice actors out there. I’ve seen a fair amount of behind-the-scenes stuff from “The Office,” and she’s always been very down to earth, and as a bonus, is every bit as adorkably witty in real life as her character is on the show. “Conceited” is probably the last word I would’ve used to describe her.

Fischer was also one of the first celebrity bloggers (in fact, many of her entries are written on-set, during the many many background shots the “Office” cast have to sit through), and from her writing seems highly aware of how fortunate she is.

Actually, the “Office” cast as a whole has always seemed to me to be refreshingly free of self-centered drama queens - in sharp contrast to the characters they play.

I have no idea how she really is, I am just going on (perhaps unfairly) the couple of times I have seen her on late night talk shows—maybe she was just nervous and I took it for being aloof.

I was more posting about when people talk about attractive cast members on “The Office” Jenna Fischer seems to be the one they always focus on, when to me there are at least 3 other women on the cast who are MUCH more physically appealing, at least in my opinion.

With that, I dont want to further hi-jack this thread.

Was this intentional? If so, I’m way behind on the new funwords.

One rare exception is Grey’s Anatomy, which has a female producer. On that show it’s the men who look like models.

Yep, intentional. Don’t remember where I first heard it, but it’s been around for a year or so at least.

I find it odd on Chuck that the title character keeps bemoaning how ugly he is. Uh-huh. Sure.
