One of my favorite things I used to be able to do is watch music videos on YT.
It used to be that I could damn near think about whatever song I wanted to hear, (ranging from the 70’s, 80’ 90’s) type it up and hit play. I could easily set my queue up with a couple of hours worth of music.
Not any more though. All the good stuff has been yanked. It sucks.
I wonder if there are any alternatives out there. I’d even be willing to pay for such a service.
I have Pandora but my problem with Pandora is you can pick the band but not the particular song you want to hear.
I used to use Grooveshark until I read an account from an artist trying to get his work removed from them, or get paid, or have any control over his work and how they basically told him to pound sand. Since then I’ve stayed away from Grooveshark, I think they’re basically ripping folks off. Artist have no control and essentially no recourse with them.
Pandora doesn’t allow you to play specific songs, and they don’t have rights to a bunch of stuff, but they let you tailor your music stream pretty well. They have stuff I’ve never heard before which has broadened my musical experience.
I also recommend Spotify. They have quite a large library that you can access for free, legally. Play specific songs and albums, and skip around as much as you want…
Interesting and disappointing. I was not aware of their chicanery, but, yes, they apparently rely on user uploads and the Safe Harbor clause but are lackadaisical at best when it comes to honoring DMCA notices and do not self-regulate anywhere near the extent youtube does.
How is your TV accessing Youtube? In my experience anything other than simply connecting your computer to the TV via hdmi results in not accessing Vevo at the very least.
I don’t have a playlist, but I’ve noticed something similar. Go find a song on YT via your computer. Now, go find the same song on YT with your phone and more often then not, all you’ll find is covers and other versions but not the “official” song. I assume the reason is so that you don’t attempt to use your phone and the YT app as a mock MP3 player.
However, it’s a real PITA when I try and show a friend or coworker some new song and eventually give up and drag him over to my computer because after 5 minutes of searching I still can’t find it on my phone.
Sorry, I’m with Quimby- I haven’t noticed any changes. I only listen/ watch on the PC but I could connect it to the big screen if I wanted. However, my wife does not share my passion for 70’s stuff so I sit quietly in a corner and listen with the cat (who has no taste anyway).
