not at all an answer to the posed question, but thisis the only clock in my living room.
Ignatz, thanks for the link. I’ve had a backwards clock for about 15 years now and bought a second one that I have at work. However, I’ve always thought they would have been better if the numbers were backwards as well. It was great to see that concept in the reverse clock on your linked page. That is definitely goig on my wish list.
There are so many other great ones on this page as well. Fantastic thread!
How about a solid block of wood?
This one is cool: http://watch.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00135&cat_id=007&dept_id=001
Wonder how long it would run on 2 C batteries with it flipping digit(s) every second?
Buy, borrow, scrounge a frame with glass [or plexiglass] sized for your favorite poster/map/picture.
Buy a movement from any number of sources on the web sized for your project. If main subject is centered, consider using a small movement off to one side or other direction.
Have a crafty person drill out the correct size hole [dirll bits for plexiglass/glass are somewhat specialized].
Mount movement, mount hands, add battery, and hang on wall or suspend from ceiling.
Coolness comes from your personal choice of view/picture and choice of movement - hidden mechanism, visible, pendulum, etc…
