About six months ago I bought a Philips DVDR since everyone is getting out of VHS I figured I would just go ahead and get a DVDR. The thing has been a piece of crap since I got it, mostly because it’s hard as hell to use, and it has this stupid menu box that comes up every time it changes chapers and there’s no way that I’ve found to make it go away.
Last night I was trying to watch TAR and record My Name is Earl. I know for a fact that I didn’t screw up the time or channel since I’ve got it recording weekly, and I had the TV on watching TAR at the same time and could see it recording Earl. Or at least it was supposed to be recording, it wasn’t. Last week I tried to record Reunion and play the PS2 and it did the same thing. A week before that I recorded something while I was watching it, somehow it only recorded two minutes at the end even though the stupid bar at the top of the screen was telling me it’s recording. So I’m taking the damn thing back, if Best Buy will take it back that is since I can’t find the reciept, but I do have the box which is good since it says it was shipped there.
So I’m looking for something new to record my shows. However, I do NOT want a TIVO since I don’t want to have to pay for recording my shows. I think I would perfer to have something that I can write to DVD on the off chance that I still want to record something to keep. When I bought this thing they had something that recorded to a hard drive, then if you wanted you could write it to a DVD, but it was $500+, have they come down in price since that would work.
So do any DVDRs work well, or did I really get a piece of crap? This is actually the second one I’ve owned since the first one took to turing it self on and off all the time.
