Specifically MP3 to WAV.
I bought my first MP3 album (MC Lars’ The Digital Gangster), but I want to turn it into WAV files that I can burn onto a CD I can listen to in my car. I went to download.com and got their highest rated free one (oh yeah, it has to be free), FreeRip.
It does the job, but it’s slow as piss and I can only convert five songs at a time. Does anyone out there in Doperland know of a good converter that is free, fast and good?
I miss the old the MusicMatch player. That converted files in a snap, but it sadly does not work in Vista.
You should be able to do this very easily with iTunes. I’m not sure it necessarily has the ability to convert to WAV, but you can certainly select MP3s and burn them directly to a normal audio (red book) CD.
Another option would be to use amp - it’s a command line tool that’s been around forever. I’m sure there’s a windows version.
Windows Media Player can burn audio CD’s for standard CD players (see here for details). WMP 11 should come standard with the Vista installation.
I love SoX

No Gui, but very lightweight and highly configurable.
I’ve had great results with Switch Sound Converter.
In my experience, most CD burner programmes can burn audio CD’s straight from MP3’2. They do the conversion on-line and the result can be played on any CD player.
