I got my left ear lobe pierced about two months ago (an early present to my upcoming mid-life crisis) and it’s time to remove the “starter stud” and get a real earring.
I work in a corporate office as an IT person (Unix admin). I tend to wear silver tones more than gold and like celtic art (silver knotwork ring on right hand, white/yellow gold ring with embossed twining vines on the left). I keep what’s left of my hair buzzed very short.
It needs to be some hypo-allergenic material, a bit macho but not really large (no four-guage wire loops, please). It also needs to be removable for those time when an earring is not appropriate. The wife prefers loops to studs but I could go either way - maybe get a small stud to substitute when the earring is too much for corporate america.
I’ve got large earlobes, so it can’t be some little 5mm ring - it’s probably three-eights of an inch from the piercing to the bottom of my lobe.
You can try a larger silver hoop - or a silver celtic knot.
I suggest sticking with sterling silver or 10k or better gold. It’s all I can wear. I’ve found that hypo-allerginic is a joke for me, and nickel makes me break out so plated is out.
Titanium loops. I got mine at that western tourist trap store on Pearle Street mall in Boulder. Other than that, go shopping at the Tat and piercing stores on Colfax, they’ll have a ton to choose from.
Don’t bother searching for manly or unisex ear rings, it would only inflate the price.
I’d stick to captive bead rings, small studs in either gold or silver or smallish gold or siver hoops. Or better yet, ask all your friends if they have any singles they want to get rid of.
